All <strong>of</strong> the recommendations in this guide regarding administration also apply to<br />

administration in the home. For additional information, see also Section 11.3.3.<br />

10.3.17.1 All hazardous drug preparations must be compounded in the pharmacy.<br />

10.3.17.2 <strong>Hazardous</strong> drugs should be transported, administered and disposed <strong>of</strong> by properly trained<br />

workers. It should be ensured that the hazardous drug transport containers are not reused<br />

by patients for domestic purposes, which may expose the family to hazardous drugs (e.g.<br />

toy box, sewing basket, etc.).<br />

10.3.17.3 Make sure that the management <strong>of</strong> hazardous waste in the home complies with the<br />

recommendations in Section 12.3.2.<br />

10.3.17.4 The nurse or inhalation therapist who administers hazardous drugs in the home must carry<br />

a spill kit. If the patient self-administers a hazardous drug, the institution should provide<br />

him with a spill kit, as well as the training necessary for its use. See Section 12.3.4 and<br />

Appendix 4.<br />
