Environmental Implications
15. Environmental considerations will be incorporated into the AMPs.
OFFICER COMMENT
16. The Shire of Kalamunda is the custodian of assets which includes roads,
buildings, footpaths, car parks, drainage, parks and reserves and plant and
equipment. As custodian of these assets, the Shire has an obligation to
manage them in a sustainable manner where a long-term approach must be
taken with regard to asset management planning.
17. There is no existing endorsed strategy or formal procedure within the Shire of
Kalamunda for the ongoing management of infrastructure assets. Accordingly,
the proposed AMS will assist with the future management of all asset
categories for the Shire of Kalamunda.
18. The AMS clarifies current and future status, financial needs and strategic
actions to achieve comprehensive asset management in the Shire.
19. Once the AMS has been adopted, AMPs for each of the asset categories will
be developed.
20. The AMPs will support the strategy to achieve effective asset management
delivery and continue to meet the service level demands and expectations of
the community.
A Councillor queried the imbalance at Table 8.1 in the Strategy; noting the renewal rating
for roads was extremely good, whilst the rating for property seemed quite poor. Manager
Infrastructure Services stated that there are other factors to consider when looking at these
asset groups as there are requirements for the Shire to carry out a minimum amount of road
works and there are also some monies relating to grant funding where the Shire must match
the amount of the grant.
