Comprehension Questions<br />

1. Inferential What is the main topic, or main idea, of today’s<br />

read-aloud? (The main topic of today’s read-aloud is<br />

evergreen trees.)<br />

2. Literal What is an evergreen tree? (An evergreen tree is a tree<br />

that stays green year-round.)<br />

3. Literal What important part of a plant is found in cones?<br />

(Seeds are found in cones.)<br />

4. Inferential What are the leaves of an evergreen called?<br />

(The leaves of an evergreen are called needles.) Why are<br />

the needles of an evergreen important? (The needles of an<br />

evergreen are important because that is where the plant’s food<br />

is made during photosynthesis.)<br />

5. Inferential How can you tell how old a tree is? (You can tell<br />

how old a tree is by counting the growth rings. Each ring<br />

equals one year.)<br />

evergreen trees alike? How are they different? (They both<br />

need the same things and have some of the same parts.<br />

Deciduous trees have broad leaves that all fall to the ground<br />

in the autumn, while evergreen trees have thin needles that do<br />

not all fall to the ground at the same time.)<br />
