Force and Motion
Maxwell’s Wheel
Used for demonstrating momentum, conservation
of energy, and torque. The unit is suspended by
two strong cords which are wound around the
shaft of the wheel and then released. The wheel
will unwind as it falls but will wind itself back up
as the momentum carries the wheel upward in
the opposite direction. The oscillation process will
continue for several moments as the wheel slowly
loses momentum and travels less and less each
time. Grades 7-12. Sh. wt. 3.18 kgs.
SB33560M — $33.30
Student Force Table
A student force table featuring a dual scale that
allows students to take readings either clockwise
or counterclockwise. Four complete weight sets,
four pulleys with clamps, and two sets of strings
that allows students to investigate the equilibrium
of either three or four forces. Each weight
set contains two each of 5 g, four each of 10 g
and 20 g brass slotted weights, and a 20 g brass
weight hanger. A bubble level helps students
with setup of the lightweight, durable tabletop
and a sturdy cast iron support that allows both
ease of use and accuracy. Table dimensions: 16”
dia. x 15” H. High school through college. Sh. wt.
6.35 kgs.
Z19337M — $236.25
Paper for Force Table. Use with the force table above for extremely accurate readings.
Pkg. of 10 sheets. Sheet measures 12” dia.
Sh. wt. 1.25 lbs.
SB47014M — $24.30
Three-Wheeled
Dynamics Carts
Quality one-piece, injection-molded,
high-impact, plastic carts designed for
the science lab. Set of two carts. Loaded
carts are assembled with aluminum piston
and piston hosing with push-button
type starter for the explosion of the cart.
Designed for experiments in velocity,
acceleration, impulse, momentum, and
energy. Instructions included. Grades
7-12. Sh. wt. 14 lbs.
SB47690M — $66.65
Dynamics Cars
Set of 2 dynamics cars constructed of heavygauge
aluminum with ball bearing wheels to
withstand the most severe classroom use. Each
car will hold several bricks or support a load of
over 90.0 kg (90.72 kgs.). Two sizes of spring steel
and rubber bumpers permit various momentum
experiments in elastic and inelastic collisions.
Dimensions (exclusive of bumpers and wheels):
7.5 cm x 25 cm (3" x 10"). Instruction guide included.
Sh. wt. 1.36 kgs.
SB10373M — $90.75
Fan Cart
This basic inexpensive fan cart demonstrates Newton’s principle
of action and reaction. The fan cart is powered by two “AA”
batteries (not included). Batteries are contained in the removable
power unit, and the fan is controlled by a switch. The propeller
delivers a thrust of about 88 mN, accelerating the cart at
0.4 m/s 2 . A transparent plate can be attached to show the effect
of reversing the airflow. Includes activity guide. Cart measures
5-5⁄8" x 3" x 4-7⁄8". Transparent plate measures 4-3⁄4" x 4-1⁄8"
x 1⁄16". One-year warranty. Grades 7-12. Sh. wt. 9 lbs.
SB48233M — $23.75
Ballistics Car
This precision-machined car demonstrates that
the forward component of a ball ejected vertically
is the same as that of the car from which it is
ejected. Apparatus consists of a heavy-duty steel
and aluminum car with vertical spring-loaded barrel,
10 cm H x 5 cm dia. Barrel contains two spring
settings for two different ball heights, up to approximately
30 cm (12"). Molded plastic wheels feature hardened ball bearing for low
friction and extreme sensitivity — car will roll on an incline as slight as 1°. Apparatus
comes complete with 2.5 cm (1") dia. steel ball, one lock pin with cord, and instructions.
Sh. wt. 1.79 kgs.
SB23796M — $54.15
Mini Dynamics
A scaled-down, quick, affordable teaching module.
Plastic cars have attached bumpers, deep wells for
weights, and low friction wheels that snap into place.
Kit includes two cars, two bumpers, two rubber stoppers,
and an activity and experiment booklet. Grade 5
and up. Sh. wt. 0.20 kgs.
SB26251M — $21.40
Bicycle Wheel Gyroscope
Dramatically demonstrate angular
momentum, torque, and gyroscope
precession with this solid rubber, 20" dia.
bicycle wheel. Students find themselves
personally involved as they try to move
the wheel’s axis of rotation. The aluminum
handle is equipped so the wheel can be
suspended from a string. Weights can be
hung from the handle to investigate
gyroscopic precession. This apparatus
will grab students’ attention as they learn
about the world of rotational physics. Use
with Lazy Susan Turntable (SB21408M
listed on page 177). Includes teacher’s
guide. Sh. wt. 6.24 kgs.
SB21409M — $85.65
Impact Car
What better way to study the momentum
changes of varying mass than with a
visual measure of its force? The impact car
is equipped with a spring scale and a slide
that is displaced on impact against a wall
or similar obstacle. This slide remains in its
displaced position until reset. The student
rolls the car down the ramp and measures
the amount of impact. Next, more mass is
added inside the car and the experiment is
repeated. The student can take direct readings from the scale to measure the increasing
force. Instruction sheet included. Grades 4-8. Sh. wt. 0.29 kgs.
SB35037M — $17.50
Inclined Plane Wood
An economical version of the traditional wood inclined plan. Features an adjustableangle
pulley and 9 ⁄16" dia. cross hole for support rod. Measures 31½" (80 cm) L x 4¾" (12
cm) W. Grade 7 and up. Sh. wt. 2 lbs.
SB45827M — $23.55
