Mutant Corn Seeds
How does colour affect photosynthesis? Challenge your
class to find out as they observe, measure, and compare
the growth of normal vs. albino corn seeds. While both
contain sufficient food to sprout, at some point the
albino sprouts die. Since they lack chlorophyll they
cannot carry out photosynthesis, leaving them without
necessary nutrition once the initial food supply is depleted.
The activity serves as an excellent demonstration of
mutation in plants as well as the role of chlorophyll in
