Tubes
with Stand
This apparatus
demonstrates
that liquids
will stand
at the same
level regardless
of the tubes.
Unit consists
of four glass
tubes of different
shapes,
mounted on sturdy base. Sh. wt. 0.51 kgs.
Principle. 8" dia. with
flared top edge and
angled spout.
Sh. wt. 0.17 kgs.
Fire Syringe
Turn on to Boyle’s Law with this explosive
demonstration! As air compresses,
the temperature increases and combustible
material bursts into flames. Also is
great for discussing adiabatic compression
(rapid compression that raises air
temperature) in diesel engines, the laws
of thermodynamics and the resourcefulness
of ancient people. The kit includes
aluminum piston, Lexan ® piston chamber,
two custom O-rings, and instructions.
Grades 6—12. Sh. wt. 0.44 lbs.
SB42045M — $15.25
Magdeburg
Hemispheres
Astonish your students with the force of air pressure.
It takes 158.76 kgs. of force to pull these half-spheres
apart after the air inside has been pumped out. Kit consists
of two plastic hemispheres (each 6½" in diameter)
with O-ring seal,
plastic valve (fits
¼" diameter
pressure tubing),
attached handles,
and instructions.
Operation requires
a vacuum pump
(not included).
Grade 6 and up.
Sh. wt. 0.25 kgs.
SB28572M — $40.45
Viscosity Tube
Demonstrate the mechanics of fluid
by visually comparing the viscosity of
four different liquids. Each tube contains
a different weight liquid and a
3
/8" plated steel ball. The balls are lifted
just above the line on the tube with a
magnet and then released. Students
compare the time for the balls to fall.
Liquids not included. Comes with
instructions.
Grades 9—12. Sh. wt. 1.59 kgs.
SB29011M — $45.55
Spouting Cylinder
An economical version of this classic
and popular apparatus for showing the
change of water pressure with depth. The
clear acrylic cylinder features three offset
spouting nozzles 4-3⁄4" apart and a filler
hose barb at the top for maintaining a
constant water depth in the cylinder.
19-5⁄16" H x 2-3⁄16" dia. Sh. wt. 1.25 lbs.
SB48380M — $116.60
Boyle’s Law Apparatus
This apparatus allows students to investigate
the elastic properties of a gas
enclosed in a calibrated airtight syringe
by subjecting the confined gas to various
loads. The syringe is built into a sturdy
wood base. The wooden top is large
enough to support arbitrary uniform
weights such as books or bricks. A plot
of pressure versus volume of gas gives a
good approximation of Boyle’s Law.
Sh. wt. 0.43 kgs.
SB16604M — $18.40
Density Slope Classroom Set
This set guides students to discover the idea
of density as a mathematical concept and that
density is a constant for a given substance.
Students will determine the mass and volume
of four material samples and plot the data on
a graph to find the constant. Set of 48 density
specimens organized as 12 sets of four. A
given tube contains specimens of a particular
substance. Use this set to test students' abilities
to determine length measurements, mass, volume,
and density. Grades 7—12. Sh. wt. 2.50 lbs.
SB47734M — $112.50
Boyle’s Law and Absolute Zero
An excellent way to visualize the basic relationship
between pressure, volume, and temperature of gases.
To display Boyle’s Law, connect the calibrated syringe to
the pressure gauge and watch the corresponding pressure
change as the volume of gas in the syringe is varied.
To display absolute zero, connect a metal sphere to the
pressure gauge and immerse the sphere in water of different
temperatures. Read the pressure changes directly
from the scale, graph temperature versus pressure, and
extrapolate to determine absolute zero. Includes instructions.
Grades 6—12. Sh. wt. 4.25 lbs.
SB45880M — $116.60
Separating Mixtures By Density
A great hands-on activity for demonstrating buoyancy
and density. The set contains small pellets made of four
different polymers with different densities. The mixture
can be separated out using flotation. One type of pellet
will float in tap water, two others will float in appropriate
salt solutions, and the last will remain on the bottom.
Grade 7—12. Sh. wt. 1.50 lbs.
SB43470M — $21.40
“Charles Law Mechanics
of Gas” Can with Lid
Demonstrate the forces of air pressure by boiling water
in the can and allowing to cool. See the can get “crushed”
right before your eyes. Metal can with lid, 1¼" opening.
Sh. wt. 0.40 kgs.
SB28561M — $12.65 ea.; 5 or more — $12.27 ea.
