• Matters related to public relations and students’<br />

grievances.<br />

• Ensuring that the TMAs are attempted by the<br />

candidates and are evaluated at the AIs.<br />

• Sending TMA awards and bills to the SSS<br />

Department as per schedule and maintaining<br />

record <strong>of</strong> the same at the Regional Centre.<br />

• Carrying out 5% sample checking <strong>of</strong> the TMAs.<br />

• Conduct <strong>of</strong> On Demand Examinations for<br />

learners enrolled from the region.<br />

8.1.3 Promotional Functions<br />

• Identification <strong>of</strong> good schools/institutions to<br />

work as study centres.<br />

• Accreditation related work such as inspection<br />

<strong>of</strong> schools/institutions for Accreditation,<br />

interaction with Study Centres, matters related<br />

to dis-accreditation <strong>of</strong> Study Centres.<br />

• Advertisements regarding admission,<br />

examination and publicity <strong>of</strong> programmes.<br />

• Identification <strong>of</strong> educational needs in <strong>Open</strong><br />

<strong>Schooling</strong> in the region through State<br />

Coordination Committees.<br />

• Promotion <strong>of</strong> <strong>Open</strong> <strong>Schooling</strong> in the States<br />

within the region and consultancy/assistance to<br />

the concerned states for setting up/upscaling <strong>of</strong><br />

State <strong>Open</strong> Schools (SOSs).<br />

• Liaison with State Government and<br />

Coordination in matters related to <strong>Open</strong><br />

<strong>Schooling</strong>.<br />

• Organisation <strong>of</strong> advocacy programmes.<br />

8.1.4 Planning and Monitoring Functions<br />

• Preparation <strong>of</strong> Perspective Plan and <strong>Annual</strong><br />

Plans <strong>of</strong> the Regional Centre.<br />

• Monitoring <strong>of</strong> Implementation <strong>of</strong> programmes<br />

in the accredited institutions including Personal<br />

Contact Programmes (PCPs) and (TMAs).<br />

• Identification and allotment <strong>of</strong> Academic<br />

Facilitators to the AIs.<br />

• Matters related to Academic Facilitation at the<br />

Study Centres through identified Academic<br />

Facilitators etc.<br />

• Maintenance <strong>of</strong> database <strong>of</strong> admission, AIs,<br />

Human Resource for monitoring and academic<br />

facilitation at the RC level.<br />

• Analysing the reports <strong>of</strong> the Academic<br />

Facilitators and preparing consolidated reports<br />

on quarterly basis for necessary actions and<br />

forwarding the same to the Headquarters.<br />

• Ensuring smooth functioning <strong>of</strong> AIs/AVIs/OBE<br />

Centres.<br />

8.2 Highlights <strong>of</strong> Programmes and<br />

Activities <strong>of</strong> Regional Centres<br />

<strong>The</strong> highlights <strong>of</strong> programmes and activities <strong>of</strong> different<br />

Regional Centres are presented below, excluding the<br />

routine activities.<br />

8.2.1 Allahabad<br />

• Promotional Activities<br />

Advocacy Programme for Madarsas-<br />

Reaching the Unreached<br />

An Advocacy Programme for Madarsas was<br />

conducted on 15 th December, <strong>2010</strong> at Regional<br />

Science City, Lucknow to associate Madarsas<br />

<strong>of</strong> ten Districts <strong>of</strong> Uttar Pradesh with NIOS.<br />

About 104 participants responded to the<br />

Advocacy Programme and interacted with<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong> NIOS. Dr. Sushmita Mitra, Director<br />

(SSS), Dr. Kuldeep Agarwal, Director<br />

(Academic), Pr<strong>of</strong>. Sabra Habib, Smt. Anitha<br />

Nair, Assistant Director (SSS), Sh. S.S. Das,<br />

Assistant Director, Regional Centre, Allahabad<br />

interacted with the participants and briefed them<br />

about the activities <strong>of</strong> NIOS.<br />

• Advertisements were published in local news<br />

papers notifying extension <strong>of</strong> dates for online<br />

admission.<br />

• <strong>The</strong> <strong>Annual</strong> meeting <strong>of</strong> Coordinators <strong>of</strong> AIs<br />

was conducted at SIEMAT Allahabad on<br />

21.02.20<strong>11</strong>. Dr. S.S. Jena, Chairman, NIOS<br />

and Pr<strong>of</strong>. Nageswara Rao, Vice Chancellor,<br />

UPRTOU addressed the gathering <strong>of</strong><br />
