8.2.6 Guwahati<br />
Academic<br />
• Translation work <strong>of</strong> Secondary Courses into<br />
Assamese language has been initiated.<br />
Promotional<br />
• May I Help You Counter to facilitate the<br />
learners for Admission/Examination set up.<br />
• Co-ordinator Meeting <strong>of</strong> AIs and AVI’s was<br />
held on 16 th March, 20<strong>11</strong>.<br />
• For promotion <strong>of</strong> vocational courses several<br />
meetings have been organised with the help <strong>of</strong><br />
Rotary club, Assam.<br />
• Letter to all directorate <strong>of</strong> ITI’s have been sent<br />
to instruct the ITI’s <strong>of</strong> North East to apply for<br />
being AVIs <strong>of</strong> NIOS.<br />
• Process for setting up the State <strong>Open</strong> School in<br />
Meghalaya was initiated. A meeting was held<br />
between Dr. S.S. Jena, Chairman, NIOS and<br />
Hon’ble Minister <strong>of</strong> Education, Government <strong>of</strong><br />
Meghalaya.<br />
8.2.7 Jaipur<br />
• Tutor Training Programme for AEP Unit was<br />
organised from September 17-19, <strong>2010</strong>.<br />
• <strong>The</strong> Orientation Programme for Science Tutors<br />
<strong>of</strong> NIOS was organised in Jaipur for two days<br />
23-24 th February, 20<strong>11</strong>.<br />
• <strong>The</strong> meeting <strong>of</strong> co-ordinators <strong>of</strong> AI and AVIs<br />
was held on 10 th March, 20<strong>11</strong> at Ahmedabad<br />
and on 16 th March, 20<strong>11</strong> at Jaipur.<br />
8.2.8 Kochi<br />
Student Support Services<br />
• 31 study centres have been newly accredited<br />
during this period. Total number <strong>of</strong> study centres<br />
rose to 391 against the previous total <strong>of</strong> 360.<br />
• <strong>The</strong> region registered an annual increase <strong>of</strong> 15%<br />
(rounded) in the academic enrolment over<br />
previous year.<br />
Other Activities<br />
• Tele-Orientation programmes for Coordinators/<br />
Academic Facilitators and tutors <strong>of</strong> AIs have<br />
been received from time to time as per the<br />
schedule provided by <strong>National</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Open</strong><br />
<strong>Schooling</strong> Headquarters, Noida.<br />
• A library in the Regional Centre, Guwahati was<br />
set up and books as per the list provided by<br />
NIOS, Headquarters were purchased.<br />
• On Demand examination hall got ready.<br />
• LCD projector with screen installed in auditorium<br />
for better presentation <strong>of</strong> Tele-conferencing<br />
programme.<br />
• DTH dish antenna installed for Gyan Darshan<br />
telecast for NIOS learners.<br />
• Enrolment increased by 18.96% in comparison<br />
to last year.<br />
• A meeting was organised with DC, Kamrup<br />
Metro to provide at least 2/3 acres <strong>of</strong> land inside<br />
the city to build permanent premises <strong>of</strong> this<br />
Regional Centre.<br />
Cluster AI Coordinators meeting<br />
• A facilitation counter for online registration was<br />
operated from August, <strong>2010</strong> at the Regional<br />
Centre. <strong>The</strong> facilitation counter was functional<br />
on holidays including Sundays during 1 st August<br />
to 10 th September and during February, 20<strong>11</strong>.<br />
50 Facilitation Centres in different AIs were<br />
functional all over the region. Functioning <strong>of</strong><br />
facilitation counters has been given wide<br />
publicity by press releases and banner.<br />
Basic Literacy Assessment<br />
• NLMA examinations held in Tamilnadu on 20/<br />
8/<strong>2010</strong> (in five districts, 69 Blocks and 2091<br />
Villages) have been monitored by engaging 41<br />
observers.<br />
