PRESIDENTS ADDRESS<br />
<strong>The</strong> President, Mr Ray Gordon, welcomed everyone to the 2012 <strong>ASA</strong> Annual Council Meeting. Prior to<br />
the proceedings commencing delegates were asked to stand in silence in memory of those delegates to<br />
Council who had sadly passed away during the year. <strong>The</strong>se were noted as David Reeves, past Secretary<br />
of the <strong>ASA</strong>, Tom Little, <strong>ASA</strong> Diving Committee and Past President of Kent <strong>ASA</strong>, Noel Winter, Facilities<br />
Officer of the <strong>ASA</strong> and Water Polo Secretary, Pat Gabbitas of the North West Region and H H V Wilkinson,<br />
long serving Treasurer of the Southern Counties and <strong>ASA</strong> Committee member.<br />

6. MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL MEETING HELD 22 OCTOBER 2011<br />
6.1. In response to a query regarding a statement by the Chief Executive on Clubs the following<br />
starred item was raised.<br />
6.1.1. Starred Item A1 - Clubs – South East Region - <strong>The</strong> Chief Executive Officer admitted that clubs had<br />
been neglected in the recent past and that this would be addressed during the year. To date, some<br />
12 months later, no concrete proposals have been published regarding <strong>ASA</strong> enhanced support<br />
for clubs and many clubs are reporting almost total lack of visibility of <strong>ASA</strong> staff in their areas<br />
over recent months.<br />
Response:<br />
During the year the Regional Chairs, Chief Executive Officer, <strong>ASA</strong> Chairman, Strategic Lead Grow and<br />
Chief Operating Officer met to discuss the level and type of support required by clubs and it was<br />
agreed to set up a working group to consider this and to undertake consultation. It was felt there were<br />
three areas which required consideration and focus: Support of the existing clubs on a day-to-day<br />
basis; the creation and support of a different style of club which meets recreational and participation<br />
needs of the wider sport and which links into a pathway of clubs; the evolution and support of existing<br />
clubs to help them move forward on a business footing to ensure sustainability. Research has been<br />
