Annual General Meeting 8. Page 8, para 4 Learn to Swim South West – Starred Item B2 – South West 1) How many swim21 Learn to Swim and School Swimming accreditations have there been to date? Could a breakdown be provided within Regions? In addition please could a similar breakdown of accredited swim21 clubs be provided with classification and discipline? 2) Please could the rationale behind the comment “we hope to be able to support more providers to realise its (Learn To Swim pathway) full potential and keep more swimmers in the programme till Stage 7 and beyond” be expanded. Response: Within England there have been 30 Learn to Swim and School Swimming, swim21 accreditations awarded. The regional breakdown is as follows: South West 12 North East 10 North West 3 South East 3 East Midland 1 West Midland 1 The number of accredited swim21 clubs: 508 This is made up of: Junior Clubs 502 Senior Clubs (Foundation) Masters 3 Open Water 1 Swimming 2 The number of accreditations by discipline: 689 This is made up of: Swimming 622 Diving 19 Synchronised Swimming 22 Water Polo 26 The number of accreditations by level: 861 Swimming Foundation 162 Swimming Teaching 258 Swimming Skill Development 301 Swimming Competitive Development 50 Swimming Performance 15 Diving Teaching 12 Diving Skill Development 4 Diving Competitive Development 3 Diving Performance 4 Synchro Teaching 12 Synchro Skill Development 7 Synchro Competitive Development 3 Synchro Performance 1 Polo Teaching 19 Polo Skill Development 9 Polo Competitive Development 1 Many swim schools and operators are showing a large drop off of children at stage 4 of the plan. We believe that if children stay in the plan to stage 7 there is a greater chance of them continuing to swim throughout their life. Annual General Meeting 9. Supplemental Question the South West. The South West were happy with the response but stated their interest was in keeping people in the programme to level 7 and beyond. Most Learn to Swim is through leisure centres and there is a conflict as they want to hold on to them rather than pass onto clubs. The South West sought assurance on this question. Response: Jon Glenn – Head of Schools Swimming assured the members that this was not the case and that the ASA is working with Learn To Swim providers to ensure that swimmers have an opportunity to join clubs and that a seamless pathway is established between Learn to Swim providers and clubs working in partnership. A subject area that was covered in the conference workshops. The response was accepted. 10. South West - Page 47: Key Performance Indicators - Governance Structures and Partnerships - Starred Item B3 What is the source of the 74.80% satisfaction survey? Could more ‘in depth’ details such as levels of satisfaction etc be provided? Response: This is a Sport England survey. The results are circulated to the Board and to regions. Paul Davies – Strategic Lead Grow. 10.1. Supplemental question by the South West. Clarification was sought on the source of satisfaction survey in relation to the 74.8% result particularly as a detailed survey had been undertaken 2 years previously by Dr Leigh Robinson which had shown much lower results. The Chief Operating Officer confirmed that the survey was carried out by Sport England and does take into account people who go swimming including Masters swimmers and general swimmers. It is a far more wide ranging survey and does help us as a sport to prioritise our strategic plans. The response was accepted. 11. APPROVAL OF THE ANNUAL REPORT 11.1. There being no further questions on the annual report the members were asked to approve the annual report. Voting unanimous. 12. FINANCIAL REPORT 12.1. The Chairman advised members of an amendment on page 2 which read “directors” and should read “members” and that Starred Items C2 and C4 had been withdrawn. 12.2. South West Page 58, Table 10 Starred Item C1 – Is it possible to have more information regarding Community Swimming Ltd? Response: Community Swimming Ltd is a charity owned by the ASA but is not a subsidiary of the ASA. The aim of the company is to open up swimming and leisure provision in facilities which are not normally available to the general public. At present it is operating 655 learn to swim classes per week in LA Fitness sites for both members and non-members of LA Fitness. There is a contract between Community Swimming Limited and the ASA for the provision of services for which the ASA receives a management fee. Jane Nickerson – Chief Operating Officer 12.3. Supplemental Question by the South West. The South West region thanked officers for the clarification but raised a further question following a visit to the Charity Commission website and stated that the website indicated that information had only been submitted in September. The Chief Operating Officer was able to confirm that the reason for the lateness had been due to access codes issued by the Charity Commission not being given early enough for which they had accepted responsibility. Therefore we were not anticipating any concerns being expressed for late notification from the Charity Commission. The response was accepted. 71
