YOU.NU.S'IX)\VN ll.uiy Hiiulir.siMi. district
manager lor Associated Theatres, recently
won pral.sc for his practice of banning
boys in blue Jeans and girls in slacks
Irom attending the Newport Theatre. In
commending Henderson. Nate S. Anker, president
of the Men's Apparel Club of Ohio,
urged all film houses to adopt similar policies.
Since last Labor Day. Henderson has turned
away all adult and adolescent customers not
dressed properly.
He said. "Ninety per cent of the adults
favor my action, while the other 10 per cent
lake the time to call us all sorts of names.
But they go home, change clothes and come
back." Henderson said that his theatres policy
has received the approval of Parent-Teacher
Ass'ns and of school administrators. Anker
declared he was not against blue Jeans and
girls slacks and toreador pants, but stressed
that a film house was not the place to wear
them.
I would like to see all theatres do the
same as the Newport." the apparel club head
said. However. Jack Hynes. manager of the
Paramount in downtown Youngstown. said
that the problems of the larger central theatres
are not as great as those of the smaller
neighborhood houses.
•We have no intentions of regulating dress
of our customers." he said. "On the other
hand, we do not tolerate any rowdyism. If
the kids are playing too much, or making
noise, we ask them to go outside or to settle
down," -said Hynes.
