Wilo-TOP Motor Technology
Motor technology
Motor technology
The foundation of the entire Wilo-TOP Series is the motor concept.
The so-called “Cold Motor” concept is based on optimised rotor and
stator configurations in conjunction with similarly optimised motor
mechanics and an electrical connecting technology with chamber
block contacts.
The conventional insulating materials of Classes F and H are fully
sufficient due to the minor electrical losses and resulting lower heat
generation.
Air venting
Electrical connection
Wilo-TOP-S, TOP-SD, Wilo-TOP-D, Wilo-TOP-Z, Wilo-SE,
Wilo-SE-TW, Wilo-RL
Both single-phase AC motors and three-phase motors have been
conceived as “wide-range voltage motors” suitable for utilisation
throughout Europe.
- Single-phase AC motor 1~230 V, 50 Hz, ±10 %.
Connection also permitted to AC power grids 1~220 Volt, 50 Hz.
- Three-phase AC motor 3~400 V, 50 Hz, ±10 %.
Connection to three-phase power grids 3~380 Volt, 50 Hz also permitted.
Connection to the 3~230 V mains is possible with Wilo-TOP-S/-SD
and Wilo-TOP-Z when the switching plug 3~230 V is used as an
accessory. Connection to the 3~230 V mains is possible with TOP-D
means of winding changeover in the terminal box.
Wilo-TOP-E and Wilo-TOP-ED
Wilo-TOP-E/-ED series pumps have three-phase AC motors, starting
with P 2 = 350 W. Integration of the 1-phase micro-frequency converter
requires connections to AC mains power.
Electrical connection: 1~230 V, 50 Hz, ±10 %.
It is possible in three-phase power grids with 3~230 V to connect
Wilo-TOP-E/-ED Series pumps between 2 phases.
Note:
When operating Wilo pumps with control devices or module accessories,
electrical operating conditions in accordance with VDE 0160 are
to be observed (for details, see planning guide).
Rotation control
The electronic rotation control facility integrated in the Wilo-TOP
three-phase pumps indicates the correct direction of rotation when
the telltale lamp is lit and the wrong direction of rotation when the
lamp goes out.
Rotor unit
The integration of all components that rotate and come into contact
with water in the compact rotor unit ensures max. smooth operation,
long service life and ease of handling during service work.
Note:
Wilo-TOP pumps do not have to be vented during start-up because
they have a special shaft bore for forced venting during operation
(see Figure).
Motor protection Wilo-TOP Series
The motor fuse protection of Wilo-TOP pumps can be ensured as
follows:
Blocking current-proof motors: no motor protection required
The motors are designed in such a way that the windings are not
damaged in the event of overload. This applies to the Wilo-TOP-D in
three-phase AC current/single-phase versions with rated motor
power P 2 = 20 W.
Pumps with internal protection against unacceptably high winding
temperatures
The motors are designed in such a way that motor voltage is shut
down internally in the event of overload and winding damage is
thereby prevented. This applies for the pump types
Wilo-TOP-S/-SD
Wilo-Z
Wilo-RL
Wilo-SE/SE-TW
in single-phase as well as in three-phase versions with rated motor
power 50 W P 2 100 W. Automatic restart takes place with the
single-phase versions after the winding cools down, the three-phase
versions are acknowledged by switching the mains voltage off and
then back on again.
Pumps with full motor protection (WSK) and Wilo SK 602/622
tripping unit
Realisation of full motor protection by means of thermal winding
contacts (WSK) placed within the stator windings. This applies for
TOP-S/-SD/-D/-Z AC pumps with rated motor power of P 2 = 180 W,
TOP-D three-phase pumps with P 2 60 W.
