hypophyllous ; spots pallid ; peridia in subrotund patches, irregularly<br />
disposed, tawny-yellow, between urceolate and concave ;<br />

Chsetomium funicolum, Cooke. Twine Bristle-mould ;<br />
peri<strong>the</strong>lia scattered, sub-ovate, black ;<br />
hairs of <strong>the</strong> vertex very<br />
long, dicbotomous or simple, erect, slender, acute, black; sporidia<br />
lemon-shaped, dingy brown.— On twine suspended in a vessel<br />
containing water at <strong>the</strong> British ]\Iuseum. {W. CarrutJiers, F.R.S.)<br />
j\Iarch, 1872. This species is most closely allied to C. elatum, but<br />
much smaller and neater. It is wholly black, and without <strong>the</strong> fibrous<br />
base of C. elatum. The hairs are more delicate, not having half<br />
<strong>the</strong> diameter, and <strong>the</strong> sporidia are scarcely more than half as long<br />
or broad. A species of Folyactis afterwards made its appearance<br />
on <strong>the</strong> same mycelium on some portion of <strong>the</strong> twine left behind<br />
with ;i few immature peritkecia.<br />
