3.Defective Stone: Any piece of stone showing flaws, cracks, or imperfections such as vents, sand and<br />

clay holes, shelly bars, shakes, mottle, seams or starts upon receipt at the storage yard, or at the<br />

building site, shall be discarded and removed from the work site, at the contractor's own expense .<br />

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS<br />

A. The following environmental requirements are applicable to stone set in mortar, and when caulking<br />

stone joints with sealant:<br />

1. During freezing or near freezing weather provide equipment and cover to maintain a minimum of 4<br />

degrees C and to protect stone work completed or in progress .<br />

2. At end of working day, or during rainy weather, cover stone work exposed to weather with waterproof<br />

coverings, securely anchored .<br />

3. Maintain materials and surrounding air to a minimum 10 degrees C prior to, during and 48 hours after<br />

completion of work .<br />

3 PRODUCTS<br />

STONE MATERIALS AND FABRICATION<br />

General<br />

1. Stone shall be of good quality, sound, free from cracks and defects, seams or starts which may impair its<br />

structural integrity, durability, appearance or function. Colour, texture and finish shall be within the range<br />

of samples approved by the Engineer .<br />

2. All stone shall be obtained from quarries having adequate capacity and facility to meet the specified<br />

requirements. Cutting and finishing shall be performed by using approved equipment to process the<br />

material promptly on order and in strict accordance with the specifications . Evidence to this effect shall be<br />

provided by the contractor's.<br />

3. Stone rejected for noncompliance with the submitted samples or the requirements of this specification<br />

shall be replaced with material acceptable to the Engineer. Replacement shall be prompt and at the<br />

Contractor's own expense. Inspection of stone by the Engineer shall not relieve the contractor of his<br />

responsibilities to perform all work in accordance with the Documents.<br />

STONE SCHEDULE<br />

Refer to the Drawings for locations, sizes and herein . All stone work shall be carried out and executed in<br />

accordance with the classifications of class " Special refer to clause 1.06, item A/1. Stone Type<br />

Application/ Thickness / Finish<br />

Application: Exterior and Interior – Special Shapes include, but not limited to:<br />

- Rebated and Splayed sills-Splayed copings with rounded edges – Splayed and mitered copings .<br />

- Corner stones – Quoins<br />

- Splayed coping quoins<br />

- Other, all as shown and / or noted in the drawings and in the Book of Details (Jordanian Code)<br />

Thickness : As noted on the relevant details / drawings .<br />

Finish : Mosamsam, Mattabeh and Tubza dressing, as noted on the drawings and details .<br />
