3.2.2.5 Packaging Recycling and Reduction<br />

<strong>UMC</strong> uses materials for shipping that fully comply with<br />

the heavy metal requirements within the EU’s PPW<br />

(Packaging and Packaging Waste) Directive. <strong>UMC</strong> ensures<br />

that its packaging materials are all verified at third-party<br />

laboratories by raw materials suppliers and minimize<br />

environmental impact, such as using recyclable materials,<br />

cartons, and non-chlorine bleaches.<br />

In addition, as <strong>UMC</strong> is not an end product supplier and<br />

hence typically reuses raw material packaging and used<br />

product packaging, after obtaining clients’ agreement, to<br />

reduce packaging consumption and waste generation.<br />
