Economics, Law, and Government<br />

Students acquire and demonstrate<br />

knowledge about how markets and free<br />

enterprise depend on supportive legal<br />

and political institutions. Students investigate<br />

and describe the influence of these<br />

governmental and legal institutions<br />

on markets and individual economic<br />

decisions. Topics to be covered include<br />

economic systems and economic reasoning;<br />

government fiscal actions and public<br />

policies; the economics of crime, pollution<br />

and poverty; relationships among<br />

market development, our legal framework<br />

and the U.S. political systems, and the<br />

constitutions of the U.S. and state of<br />

Wyoming. Prerequisites: Completion of<br />

MATH 0920, ENGL 0700 or ENGL 1001<br />

(or equivalent placement test scores) or<br />

instructor approval.<br />

Introduction to Money and Banking<br />

A presentation of topics in theoretical<br />

monetary economics and government<br />

finance. Students make extensive use<br />

of abstractions, theoretical models, and<br />

quantitative analysis techniques relative<br />

to the topics presented. Prerequisites:<br />

Completion of ECON 1020 and FIN 2100.<br />

Public School Practicum<br />

Preservice students demonstrate emerging<br />

practical teaching skills and are<br />

assigned to an elementary school, junior<br />

or senior high school under the supervision<br />

of a classroom teacher. Students<br />

meet in a weekly seminar with the course<br />

instructor and work with the assigned<br />

cooperating teacher for a minimum of<br />

30 hours. Prerequisite: Completion of<br />

EDFD 2020, EDST 2450 with a grade of C<br />

or better, a GPA of 2.5 or better. Successful<br />

completion (grade of C or better) or<br />

concurrent enrollment in EDFD 2100.<br />

In addition, students must have taken<br />

HLED 1221 (or current First Aid certification)<br />

and ITEC 1200.<br />

Teaching Effective Study Techniques<br />

A course designed to help classroom<br />

teachers and parents learn new and<br />

current developments, materials, and<br />

techniques for teaching students how<br />

to study and learn. Participants learn a<br />

variety of study and learning approaches<br />

such as note taking, reading for the main<br />

idea and supporting details, mapping,<br />

memory skills, and managing time and<br />

tasks, and demonstrate applications to a<br />

classroom setting. Prerequisite: Completion<br />

of DVST 0510 or ENGL 0510 (or<br />

equivalent placement test score). (S/U<br />

This course involves the study of classroom<br />

management including terminology,<br />

and develop techniques to promote<br />

a positive and constructive classroom<br />

climate.<br />

Topics in Early Childhood Education<br />

Students investigate and gain knowledge<br />

and skills in a variety of topics related to<br />

early childhood education and relevant<br />

to working with young children, birth<br />

through age eight. A developmental<br />

approach to such topics as classroom<br />

management, guidance and discipline,<br />

curriculum, administration, and methods<br />

and materials is utilized. Students may<br />

repeat this course and receive credit for<br />

each different topic . (articulated course)<br />

This course is designed to introduce<br />

the student to the field of early childhood<br />

education, preschool through<br />

third grade. The student is exposed to a<br />

in operation in the community through<br />

observations in child care facilities and<br />

in the public schools. Emphasis is placed<br />

on evaluating early childhood education<br />

as a career. Prerequisite: Completion of<br />

DVST 0510 or ENGL 0510 (or equivalent<br />

placement test score).<br />

Students collect, describe, and interpret<br />

evidence of young children’s emerging<br />

(or equivalent placement test score).<br />

Students focus on developmental stages<br />

of children from conception to three<br />

years of age. Students examine the major<br />

environments; family partnerships;<br />

and the caregiver’s role. Prerequisite:<br />

Completion of DVST 0510 or ENGL 0510<br />

of Young Children/Lab<br />

Students explore effective methods of<br />

observation and guidance to meet the<br />

children’s needs individually and in<br />

develop skills to plan effective environments<br />

and classroom management, prepare<br />

materials and equipment, develop<br />

schedules, utilize assessment tools and<br />

promote parent-teacher communication.<br />

The course serves as a bridge between<br />

theory and application through student<br />

experiences. Prerequisite: Completion of<br />

DVST 0510 or ENGL 0510 (or equivalent<br />

placement test score).<br />

Successful students acquire knowledge<br />

and develop skills related to the business<br />

and human relations components<br />

of administering centers for young<br />

children. Students examine procedures<br />

including fiscal management; selection,<br />

development, and motivation of staff;<br />

parent and community involvement; and<br />

program regulations and evaluations.<br />

Students develop skills in planning,<br />
