Membership
The Fall is traditionally when packs try
to recruit new families to Cub Scouting. New
data provided by National BSA shows that
generation X and Y parents like to be introduced
to leaders. Having a short biography
of your den and pack leaders would make
them feel like they know you a little better.
Packs might include these short bios on the
back of your annual program calendar or
on a separate sheet of paper at your join
events. There are many activities competing
for the extra-curricular hours, making sharing
the message that there is no “deadline”
to join Scouting even more important. It’s
important to have a year round recruitment
plan for your pack. The packs that recruit
during the Spring and before camp have an
easier time recruiting new leaders, getting
them trained sooner and providing a stronger
pack for even MORE families to join in
the Fall.
A Charter Representative observed seeing
Venturing Crews in many airports across
the nation, heading off to various activities
and events. He shared that about 75% of
the members are girls. This is true of Venturing
membership across the nation! Please
consider offering young women the gift of
Scouting through the Venturing program.
Young ladies are looking for opportunities
to explore the world, gain leadership opportunities
and have FUN too.
Charter Renewal begins in October
Do not wait to turn in applications for
your new youth, youth you find on rosters
and new adult leaders. When uploading
the charter renewal program, if you have
turned in your applications, the roster will
be as complete as possible and your data
entry will be drastically reduced! Please
begin now checking your rosters for address,
birthday, and phone number accuracy by using
your rosters available on the Online Advancement
web site. If you need your unit
ID #, please ask Sharon Larson at Roundtable.
Popping for the Popcorn Sale

and guest presenter Dave Jarvis from the
Council, held a fun and exciting Popcorn
Kernel training for unit leaders. There are
so many prizes available for your Scouts
to earn during the sale. It’s not too late
to register and to sell popcorn. Since all
units have annual planning accomplished,
you should share the cost per boy with your
families and let them know what they need
to sell to pay their way through the entire
Scout year. Each boy should have a goal to
pay for Scouting and maybe even a goal of
what prize they would like to earn. Families
should know that their boys can and should
earn their fare (THRIFTY) share and to help
get themselves to summer camp. The popcorn
sale runs the duration of the month of
October. Please support the Scouts by buying
popcorn.
Training Opportunity
Leaders should visit the Cascade Pacific
Council website at www.cpcbsa.org and
click on training. From here, you can access
the Fast Start training which will give you
a brief, succinct video about your new role
in Scouting and how your meetings should
be run. You will also need to plan time to
attend the New Leader Essentials (approximately
1.5 hours) and Leader Specific Training
(varies depending on your leadership
role) required for your position. Since they

Compass Points
will be held back to back, you should plan
for at least 4 hours. We realize this makes
for a long evening, however, it will be only
one evening instead of two.
November 15th is Cub Scout Pow
Wow
This is a day long, premier training for
all Cub Scout leaders. You will have a wonderful
time at this year’s Western Themed
training. The cost is $20 but if you register
early, you will receive a $5 discount. This
price includes the rental of the location, your
lunch, and a cd-rom that includes all of the
resources for EVERY class offered that day,
even the ones you couldn’t make because
you were taking other classes. What a bargain!
Summer Camp
It’s time to think about registering your
troop for summer camp 2009. It may seem
like you just finished the summer program,
however, our boy scout camps often fill up
in specific weeks. You can check weekly on
the status of availability online at www.cpcbsa.org
and click on Camp Availability. For
Cub Scout packs, camp reservations open up
at POW WOW, November 15th. This includes
cub resident, Webelos Resident and
Day Camp. The following Monday, Boy
Scouts.
Webelos-Ree
Thank you to the Webelos Ree committee,
chaired by Drew Burke and all of the
Boy Scout station leaders. Ginger Clifton,
the coveted cook of our district now to the
Council and Camps as well, cooked again
for us! Our Webelos look forward to interacting
with boys they look up to. Thank
you for volunteering your time and Scout

The Annual District Dinner and Awards
Banquet Recognition Dinner is now accepting
NOMINATIONS. The committee is calling
