Every pack, troop, team and crew renews its charter annually- the paperwork is done in October, and the new charter takes effect January 1. Registration, Boys’ Life, and general sanity are affected by charter renewal- use this opportunity to keep things running smoothly in your pack! Packets and information will be distributed at the October Roundtable- make sure someone is there to pick up and hear all the info. Camp open house delivers on this promise. We need your help to make this happen! The Camp Lewis open house will be held Saturday, October 25. The full-day time commitment will be from about 7:30 am to 4 p.m. There will be room for folks who can only work ½ day as well. It’s the salty scent of exploration mixed with the sweet smell of self-discovery, service, and friendship, all with a slight caramel overlay. Profits from the popcorn sale will make many program opportunities available to scouts across our district. Is your unit missing out? Sean and Conner of Pack 608 have a great time Adventure Cove Fall round-up Fall Round up is in high gear! Almost all our packs have hosted their join night, but there is still important follow up to be done. Here are five important items that must happen following a pack join night: 1. Turn in all applications with appropriate fees to the Council Service Center. 2. Ensure new Scouts have one or more positive Scouting experiences within the first two weeks after they join the pack. 3. Ensure that all new den leaders and pack leaders receive Fast Start Training and make plans to attend New Leader Essentials and Leader Specific Training. Plan the next recruiting effort. There are still many boys who have not been asked to join Cub Scouts- think of the kids who will be finishing soccer in the next month! Pow-wow Saturday, November 15- This is the best cub leader training offered all year, with a class list tailored for you. Classes offered include pack administration, advancement, crafts, outdoor cooking, den discipline, ceremonies, recognition, and more. Info and registration are at www.cpcbsa.org/register. Webelos To Scout Transition Now is the time for troops to invite nearby Webelos dens out for a visit or a troop camp-out. Webelos leaders, don’t be shy if a troop your scouts are interested in hasn’t called yet. Reach out! If you need contact info, call or email DE Kate Benson (contact info below). Summer Camp 2008 Boy Scout summer camps are filling up fast, so be sure to register post-haste! Cub packs and dens can sign up for summer camp starting the morning of November 15th, at Pow-wow. Be sure to get the session your group wants by signing up early! Top Award Board Training This training is required to chair an Eagle or Quartermaster board; it is helpful for members of those boards as well. The next Top Award Board training class is October 11th, at the Hearthwood LDS Church, 220 NE Hearthwood Blvd., Vancouver, WA. Vancouver Veteran’s Day Parade The Vancouver National Historic Reserve is running the annual Celebrate Freedom Veteran’s Day Parade- a great event in our community. They are currently accepting registration forms from groups that want to participate- but the solid cut-off is October 9th. No applications will be accepted after that date. WEBELOS WOODS Oct. 17 - 19, our 4th and 5th grade Scouts will camp at Cub World on Scouter’s Mt., learning Boy Scouts skills from real Boy Scouts, seeing up close how patrols & Troops operate. Stampede younglings at Cubworld will in turn get to see Webelos in action, and will get inspired about their future career in Cub Scouts. Come to Roundtable for more information. HELPFUL Excerpted from a recent letter by a member of the St Agatha Administrative Council: “It was a pleasure to work with Jared Hazeem (Troop 30) to complete the renovation and “extreme makeover” of the nursery space at St. Agatha. . . . During one of our meetings on site we were summoned outside the hall by a cry for help. An elderly parishioner had fallen on the sidewalk and was down and bleeding on the pavement. Jared calmly assessed the situation and initiated first aid while we waited for help to arrive. He was able to communicate with emergency medical personnel and help them while they prepared to transport her. Clearly his Scout training kicked in when it was critical to ‘be prepared’. On behalf of St. Agatha I would like to express our gratitude to Jared and his team for their help and a job well done.” Way to go, Jared!
