Pirate Days
This year, the Sea Scout program collaborated
with Fort Vancouver and the Silver
Star districts to provide an exciting and
unique opportunity known as “Pirate Day”.
Pirate’s Day, is an event that offer Cub Scout
age youth an opportunity to experience what
Sea Scout is all about. The inaugural event

Venturing now ten years old
Yes, to some of us it seems like only
yesterday when those green uniforms first
showed up. Ten years have gone by since
the beginning of the Venturing Program.

was held September 20th at the Port of Vancouver
Terminal 1 (Inn at the Quay), located
on the riverside downtown Vancouver, WA.
The program flagship the M/V Reliant and
other ships of the R.A. Rasmusen fleet held
a “Join Scouting Festival” to introduce elementary
school boys to the scouting movement
and to the basic traditions and activities
of the Pack. While new recruits gained
exposure, current participants were able to
earn some of their advancement. It was an
exhilarating time for all.
Venturing Ride
For those ships looking for high adventure
opportunities and seeking new members,
Venturing Ride is a good investment!
In the past, several ships have participated
in Venturing Ride events... last year it was
a shooting sports focus at Douglas Ridge Rifle
Club. Previous years it has been held at
Rooster Rock with a water sports emphasis.
Show off your program and invite others to
see what you are doing. You never know

Come on down to the Cabinet meeting
Adults and youth alike are welcome to
join the active Venturers in the Council Cabinet.
The Cabinet needs help putting on
events throughout the year, and promoting
the Venturing Program throughout the council.
They meet the fourth Tuesday of every
month at the Council Office.
where you will find new members... doing
both Venturing and Sea Scouts programs
can provide an interesting bridge to program
growth. This years’ event was held at
Butte Creek Ranch and feature horseback
rides and orienteering, with a lot of other
fun things to do. Lunch and dinner was provided
for Saturday with a Texas-style hoedown
after dinner. Attendees participating
in horseback rides and orienteering received
the new Quest Sports Patch hope you didn’t
miss out! Units were encouraged to bring
scouts that needed to complete their merit
badge or Ranger/Outdoor Bronze Award
requirements as well as some new youth to
recruit for their unit.
