Appendices Appendices <strong>2005</strong>, 47 people were recognised for their outst<strong>and</strong>ing commitment. The Jim Anderson Scholarships support five Year 12 students enrolled at one <strong>of</strong> a number <strong>of</strong> government secondary schools in Western Sydney who take up study at the University <strong>of</strong> Western Sydney or a TAFE <strong>NSW</strong> Institute. Leadership Fellowships are awarded to public school principals to support their pr<strong>of</strong>essional learning. In <strong>2005</strong>, nine principals were awarded fellowships to conduct research nationally <strong>and</strong>/or overseas. The Meritorious Service to Public <strong>Education</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Training</strong> Award celebrating outst<strong>and</strong>ing achievement <strong>and</strong> contributions to public education <strong>and</strong> training was awarded to the author Libby Gleeson. The <strong>NSW</strong> Combined High Schools’ Sports Association awarded: • The Val Lambert Trophy to Johnno Cotterill, Sydney Distance <strong>Education</strong>, for outst<strong>and</strong>ing achievement by a male student in his chosen sport <strong>of</strong> water polo • The Betty Bowen Award, to Dani Samuels, for outst<strong>and</strong>ing achievement by a female student, in her chosen sport <strong>of</strong> athletics. The 38th WorldSkills Competition TAFE <strong>NSW</strong> students made up 14 <strong>of</strong> the 25 Australian competitors at Competition held in Helsinki during May <strong>2005</strong> <strong>and</strong> were awarded three gold medals, two bronze medals, <strong>and</strong> five medallions <strong>of</strong> excellence. Premier’s Teacher Scholarships were awarded to 38 teachers to undertake international study in six <strong>of</strong> the key learning areas; Aboriginal education; environmental education; special education; rural <strong>and</strong> remote education; business studies; <strong>and</strong> information <strong>and</strong> communication technologies. Public <strong>Education</strong> Service Certificates are awarded to teachers <strong>and</strong> departmental <strong>of</strong>ficers in recognition <strong>of</strong> 20, 30 or 40 years <strong>of</strong> service to government schools. Public School Parent <strong>of</strong> the Year Awards recognise parents who have made a significant contribution to their school communities. In <strong>2005</strong>, 56 parents were recognised by their Regions. Quality Teaching Awards are managed jointly by the Australian College <strong>of</strong> Educators (<strong>NSW</strong> Branch) <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Department</strong> on behalf <strong>of</strong> the Minister for <strong>Education</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Training</strong>. In <strong>2005</strong>, 12 teachers from government schools <strong>and</strong> 12 teachers from TAFE <strong>NSW</strong> Institutes received recognition for their exemplary practice. The School <strong>and</strong> TAFE <strong>NSW</strong> Administrative <strong>and</strong> Support Staff Recognition Awards affirm the valuable contribution that administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff make to public education. In <strong>2005</strong>, eight school administrative <strong>and</strong> support staff <strong>and</strong> two members <strong>of</strong> TAFE <strong>NSW</strong> administrative services received awards. The School Web Design Awards encourage teachers <strong>and</strong> students to become familiar with web design tools <strong>and</strong> to use information <strong>and</strong> communication technologies to create thematic websites. In <strong>2005</strong>, seven secondary schools <strong>and</strong> seven primary schools received awards. The Special Industry Awards recognise outst<strong>and</strong>ing achievements in the workplace <strong>and</strong> in training. In <strong>2005</strong>, the Phil Darby Memorial Award was awarded to Kevin Spiteri in the South Western Sydney Region. The award for the Top Apprentice in Vehicle Trades was awarded to David McAlister in the North Coast Region, <strong>and</strong> the Excellence in Trade Skills Award was awarded to Daniel Lukic in the South Sydney Region. TAFE <strong>NSW</strong> Quality Awards are made to teams <strong>of</strong> teaching <strong>and</strong> non-teaching staff from TAFE <strong>NSW</strong>. These awards recognise team projects that demonstrate significant improvement to, <strong>and</strong> support for, the quality <strong>of</strong> teaching <strong>and</strong> learning in TAFE <strong>NSW</strong>. In <strong>2005</strong>, the Gold Award was awarded to Sydney Institute; the Silver Award was awarded jointly to Vocational <strong>Education</strong> in Schools Directorate <strong>and</strong> the Community Services, Health, Tourism <strong>and</strong> Recreation Curriculum Centre; <strong>and</strong> the Bronze Award was awarded to Western Institute. The Teacher <strong>and</strong> School Administrative <strong>and</strong> Support Staff Exchange Program supported 31 teachers <strong>and</strong> two principals to undertake year-long exchanges in 10 destinations. These exchanges provide valuable insights into other educational organisations as well as bringing international perspectives to <strong>NSW</strong> schools. The Treasury Managed Fund Risk Management Awards celebrate the achievements <strong>of</strong> government agencies in the Treasury Managed Fund in better practice risk management. In <strong>2005</strong>, the <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Education</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Training</strong> won a highly commended award for its Safe Working <strong>and</strong> Learning Strategy <strong>2005</strong>-2008. Vocational <strong>Education</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Training</strong> (VET) sector awards recognise <strong>and</strong> reward the achievements <strong>of</strong> students, teachers, businesses <strong>and</strong> vocational education <strong>and</strong> training providers in the VET sector.
