The technical team at our<br />

Phosphates bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

proposed an <strong>in</strong>novative<br />

solution to re-use phosphate<br />

waste <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> fertiliser<br />

production process. The<br />

technique was put <strong>in</strong>to<br />

full-scale production dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

2012, <strong>with</strong> 40% of phosphate<br />

waste be<strong>in</strong>g re-used <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> year,<br />

result<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> lower production<br />

costs and a significant<br />

environmental benefit.<br />

Our Barro Alto project <strong>in</strong> Brazil<br />

re-uses 85% of its water –<br />

around 10% higher than<br />

levels achieved at equivalent<br />

The flexible conveyor tra<strong>in</strong><br />

(FCT) at Greenside colliery<br />

is a cont<strong>in</strong>uous haulage<br />

system that replaces <strong>the</strong> use<br />

of shuttle cars to move cut<br />

coal underground. This tra<strong>in</strong><br />

has reduced <strong>the</strong> need for<br />

people and vehicles to come<br />

<strong>in</strong>to contact <strong>with</strong> each o<strong>the</strong>r,<br />

improv<strong>in</strong>g safety as well<br />
