in Colombia serving as a financial consultant to the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit. Mr. Gomez was named one of the<br />

rising stars of mutual funds by Institutional Investor News (2009). He is chairman of the oversight committee for the Markit GEMX<br />

emerging markets indices and also serves on other committees pertaining to emerging markets. He has 17 years of investment<br />

experience and holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he also received his<br />

undergraduate degree.<br />

PIMCO: Inflation-Indexed Securities Segment. Mr. Worah is a managing director in the Newport Beach office, a portfolio<br />

manager, and head of the Real Return portfolio management team. He was previously a member of the analytics team and<br />

worked on real and nominal term structure modeling and options pricing. Prior to joining PIMCO in 2001, he was a postdoctoral<br />

research associate at the University of California, Berkeley, and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, where he built models to<br />

explain the difference between matter and anti-matter. He has 10 years of investment experience and holds a Ph.D. in theoretical<br />

physics from the University of Chicago.<br />

First Quadrant: Global Macro Segment and Currency Segment. As a quantitative manager, First Quadrant employs a centralized<br />

team-based approach to investment research and portfolio management. Both functions are internal to FQ and not reliant on<br />

third-party providers. The mission of the internal Investment Research team is to continuously improve the multi-factor models<br />

used across First Quadrant strategies.<br />

Ken Ferguson, Dori Levanoni, and Ed Peters are primarily responsible for the day-to-day management of the global macro segment<br />

of the Academic Strategies <strong>Portfolio</strong>.<br />

Ken Ferguson, PhD, is one of two First Quadrant partners co-heading the firm’s global macro research function. He is involved in<br />

all aspects of product development: model building, risk measurement, risk allocation, and portfolio optimization. On joining First<br />

Quadrant in 1994, Mr. Ferguson was initially focused on tactical asset allocation, currency, and global macro strategies.<br />

Dori Levanoni is a First Quadrant partner co-heading the firm’s global macro research function. He also is involved in all aspects<br />

of product development: model building, risk measurement, risk allocation, and portfolio optimization. On joining the investment<br />

research team in 1998, Dori was initially focused on tactical asset allocation, currency, and global macro strategies and<br />

subsequently served as manager of currency research and director of the currency product.<br />

Ed Peters is a First Quadrant partner co-heading the firm’s Global Macro Strategies. He is involved in all aspects of product<br />

development: model building, risk measurement, risk allocation, and portfolio optimization. Prior to joining First Quadrant he<br />

spent 23 years with PanAgora Asset Management where he was, over time, an equity portfolio manager, Director of Tactical Asset<br />

Allocation, Chief Investment Officer of Macro Investments, and Chief Investment Officer.<br />

Ken Ferguson, Dori Levanoni and Jeppe Ladekarl are primarily responsible for the day-to-day management of the currency<br />

segment of the Academic Strategies <strong>Portfolio</strong>. Biographies for Mr. Ferguson and Mr. Levanoni are included above.<br />

Jeppe Ladekarl joined First Quadrant as a Director and a member of the Global Macro investment team in November 2009.<br />

Before joining First Quadrant Jeppe Ladekarl was the Principal <strong>Portfolio</strong> Manager for the currency and global tactical asset<br />

allocation portfolios managed by the World Bank Pension and Endowments Department. Mr. Ladekarl managed the team that<br />

allocates funds to external GTAA and active currency managers. In addition, he was responsible for the internally managed global<br />

macro strategy investing and traded in a broad array of FX, fixed income, credit and equity markets.<br />

AlphaSimplex: Hedge Fund Replication Segment. Andrew W. Lo founded AlphaSimplex in 1999 and currently serves as the firm’s<br />

Chief Investment Strategist. He is also Chairman of AlphaSimplex’s Investment Committee and a member of AlphaSimplex’s Risk<br />

Committee. Dr. Lo is the Harris & Harris Group Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Director of MIT’s<br />

Laboratory for Financial Engineering.<br />

Jeremiah H. Chafkin has served as President of AlphaSimplex since 2007. He is also a member of AlphaSimplex’s Investment<br />

Commitee and Risk Committee. From 2006 until November 2007, Mr. Chafkin was President and Chief Executive Officer of the<br />

U.S. division of Natixis Global Asset Management. Prior to that time, he headed investment advice and research for Charles<br />

Schwab & Co. and served as president of Charles Schwab Investment Management.<br />
