Why this ad is special: Just as Avastin
approaches cancer treatment in an
unconventional manner, the new advertising campaign defies convention in communicating the
many reasons why Avastin belongs at the foundation of cancer therapy. The teaser line (“To reach
beyond conventionÖ”) establishes a grounded, yet aspirational, clinical rationale by
communicating an opportunity to achieve greater therapeutic success. The payoff (“Think beyond
the tumor”) reveals just where that opportunity existsÖin the vasculature that feeds the tumor, an
essential target in any comprehensive anti-cancer strategy. This powerful call to action is
juxtaposed against a vibrant three-dimensional depiction of blood vessels surrounding a tumor
mass in a simulated (though intensely realistic) color-tinged diagnostic scan. As such, these
vessels stand out not only from the background of this ad, but from all other ads, as well.
