WHEREAS: Maria Montessori (1870-1952) was
the first woman in Italy to receive a medical degree.
Working in the fields of Psychiatry, Education and
Anthropology, her greatest contribution was in
revolutionizing the way one views how children
learn. Through the Montessori program or method,
allowing the child to work independently and with
peers, rather than being traditionally taught solely
by the teacher, she developed each child’s maximum
potential. Today, hundreds of schools worldwide use
the Montessori method with great success; and
WHEREAS: We commend the members of the
IHCC-NY, Inc. for their longstanding commitment
and contributions to the success of Italian-American
Heritage Month. Because of their dedicated efforts,
all Americans have a greater appreciation for the
Italians and Italian-Americans who have made New
York City such an extraordinary place to live; now,
therefore
BE IT KNOWN: That the Council of the City of
New York most gratefully recognizes the
Italian Heritage &Culture Committee
of New York, Inc.
for its outstanding service and contributions to the
community.
