re-interpreting <strong>the</strong> glorification <strong>of</strong> Christopher Columbus<br />

in mainstream Italian-American culture. Instead <strong>of</strong><br />

celebrating conquest, <strong>the</strong> book celebrates <strong>the</strong> Italian-<br />

American immigrant experience and those who fought<br />

<strong>for</strong> social justice: teachers, laborers, union organizers,<br />
