Martial Arts<br />
Classes are taught by Illinois Shotokan Karate Club’s expert instructors<br />
under the direction of John DiPsquale, for-time National Champion, U.S.<br />
Karate National Coach and President of the National Karate Federation<br />
of the U.S.<br />
Beginning students will not be permitted to register in the current<br />
session after the second class has met. Registration for continuing<br />
through advanced students will be accepted after the start date but will<br />
be charged the full class fee.<br />
Pre-Karate<br />
Students will develop agility, strength and coordination skills through fun<br />
and creative activities. This program, designed to work with growing<br />
minds and bodies, enhances memory and agility too.<br />

Youth Karate<br />
Karate skills put children in touch with their bodies and help to build<br />
coordination, agility, strength and poise as well as establishing lasting<br />
personal safety skills. The mental aspect of karate is equal if not greater<br />
than the physical. Practicing this art results in increased self esteem in<br />
addition to enhancing discipline and control.<br />
No class 5/27. Class on 6/10 will meet at <strong>Park</strong> View School.<br />

Martial Arts Club<br />
This fun Tae kwon-do club builds confidence, provides fitness, and<br />
teaches self-discipline. Safe, expert instruction in a non-competitive<br />
environment. Beginners to continuing students. Uniforms optional and<br />
available upon request. No class 5/27.<br />

Aikido<br />
Focus will be on coordination of the mind and body for better discipline,<br />
concentration, skill, and dexterity. Learn relaxation through mediation,<br />
misogi breathing, and the use of Aikido techniques and exercises.<br />
Instruction in weapons such as the Bokken (wooden Sword) and the<br />
Jo (wooden staff). Traditional martial lecture is included in lessons for<br />
the exploration of Budo and Bushido culture. Enrollees will establish a<br />
schedule with instructors. Optional additional sessions will be held on<br />
Sundays (adults only) from 10:30 a.m. to noon.<br />

Brave Way Self-Defense<br />
We will teach you and your family how to defend yourselves in two<br />
hours. Class includes lecture, demonstration, hands-on instruction,<br />
scenario-based training, defense against armed and unarmed attackers,<br />
single and multiple attackers, standing & sitting, and ground techniques,<br />
and rape defense/prevention. Includes a take home Personal Safety<br />
<strong>Guide</strong>.<br />
