12:30 – 13:30
INF-NET1590 What’s New in vSphere -
Networking
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Vyenkatesh Deshpande, VMware, Inc.;
Manish Mittal, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room F4
The vSphere Distributed Switch (VDS) is a key
component of the vSphere platform. It abstracts
virtual network parameters of individual hosts and
enables centralized provisioning, administration
and monitoring through VMware vCenter Server.
In this session you will learn about new features
and operational improvements that will make
administrators’ lives easier when it comes to
troubleshooting and managing the virtual network
infrastructure. We will also discuss the improved
scalability of VDS and demonstrate some
key features.
INF-NET1932 On-demand Virtual
Networking with vShield Edge
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Serge Maskalik, VMware, Inc.;
Rudra Rugge, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room G2
vShield Edge, now in its third year of existence, has
grown into a highly available and programmable
(via REST) solution for providing critical
networking services in the cloud, such as server
load balancing, firewalling, network translation,
IPsec (site-to-site VPN), L2VPN & User SSL
VPN, and VXLAN gateway functionality. Serge
Maskalik, Director of R&D, who leads the team
developing the Edge, will present a deep dive into
this product, including a discussion on how they
achieved parity for the performance characteristics
found in physical appliances. He will explore
and highlight how the x86 density trend, h/w
offloads, scale out architecture and per-device &
per-tenant resource isolation have been harnessed
to enable multi-tenancy use cases and lowered
the operational complexity due to the reduced
fault domain in comparison to contextualized
hardware-based systems. He will also explore the
operational aspects of virtualizing the network
edge, demonstrate workflows for deploying and
operating Edges and discuss comparison to the
typical end-of-row L3-L7 options. Finally, he also
covers other NetSec Virtualization technologies,
such as VXLAN, vShield App and Spoofguard.
P2V your L4-L7 services!
INF-STO2980 vSphere 5 Storage
Best Practices
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Chad Sakac, EMC Corporation;
Vaughn Stewart, NetApp
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room B2
Storage industry experts will discuss a number
of best practices for connecting vSphere 5 to
SAN & NAS storage platforms with a focus on
performance, availability and manageability.
INF-VSP1168 Architecting a
Cloud Infrastructure
Technical Level:
Panel: Aidan Dalgleish, VMware, Inc.;
Frank Denneman, VMware, Inc.;
David Hill, VMware, Inc.
Moderator: Rawlinson Rivera, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room A2
This session will discuss the various design
considerations when architecting the foundation
for every solid cloud environment: VMware
vSphere® 5.0. We will start with sizing and
scaling and end with some operational guidance.
Different examples will be used to show the
impact design considerations can have on the
availability of your services.
INF-VSP1372 What’s New with
vSphere
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Michael Adams, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room C1
This session will take a look at the latest release
of the vSphere platform. This fast paced session
will expose users to all the major and minor
product enhancements of the world’s
#1 virtualization product.
ITT3237 From Reactive to Innovative:
The Journey to the Cloud Crosses
People, Process, Technology and
Measurement
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Mike Hulme, VMware, Inc.;
Kevin Lees, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room G1
As the market moves to embrace cloud
computing, customers are understanding that
success depends upon organizational change,
process optimization and financial measurement
along with solid technical decisions. Many
organizations are struggling to react to the
needs of business or bring order to the line of
business decisions regarding cloud providers,
SaaS applications and cloud application platforms.
Other organizations, however, are orchestrating
a model to refine the way they do IT, leveraging
cloud to become a true source of innovation for
the business.
This session outlines the path that successful
enterprises are following to proactively mature
the way they build, run, staff and measure the
impact of a cloud environment. Included in this
session will be specific guidance on how to rise
above the reactive nature of cloud today to
leverage cloud for strategic differentiation and
business innovation. This session features realworld
feedback from VMware’s enterprise and
global service providers about how, as key areas
of IT mature, the business value of cloud and the
role of IT also evolves.
