now that use converged storage servers to
help improve performance and throughput

These new solutions integrate hybrid drive
configurations inside the server enclosure to offer
the best characteristics of solid state drive (SSD)

A SQL Server database is a resource intensive
application, and thus requires attention to its
implementation on a vSphere platform. Attend
this technical session to learn how to properly
virtualize SQL Server on a vSphere platform. We
will discuss how to migrate existing SQL Server
databases onto a vSphere platform, how to
properly determine resource requirements for a
virtualized SQL Server implementation, and how
to manage and monitor those resources.

This will be a technical session, in which General
Mills will share their experience in virtualizing
key MS Exchange 2007 server roles, supporting
~30,000 mailboxes for one of the most
recognized brands in the world, beginning in
2009, on vSphere 4.0. Since then, they have
migrated to MS Exchange 2010, and virtualized
all server roles, on vSphere 4.1. General Mills will
discuss the architecture that they ultimately
chose, why they chose it, and how it differs from
vendor recommendations. One such example is
General Mills’ use of shared storage, rather than
direct-attached storage.

Most IT executives agree that their application
infrastructure will look very different five years
from now. That difference will be driven by
the changing nature of applications, which are
increasingly Web-oriented, dynamic, dataintensive
and most likely deployed on a virtual
infrastructure. New applications will be sourced
from existing data centers as well as from external
cloud services. Monitoring and metric gathering
will be required to span heterogeneous cloud
environments to provide end-to-end visibility.
And end users will access these applications
from a growing variety of devices.
