THURSDAY
09:00 – 10:00
SPO3415 Server-Based Storage:
Faster, Economical, Reliable
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Christie Rice, Intel
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | room C2
As customers investigate storage alternatives,
they are increasingly looking at server hardware.
Solution providers are developing products
now that use converged storage servers to
help improve performance and throughput
as well as reduce overall power consumption.
These new solutions integrate hybrid drive
configurations inside the server enclosure to offer
the best characteristics of solid state drive (SSD)
performance balanced against the low cost and
capacity of conventional hard drives.
This session outlines the detail behind this trend
toward internal SSD storage, provides tips for
system integration and offers guidance for
building optimized server solutions. Tradeoffs of
Enterprise versus Consumer class SSDs will be
discussed along with the latest trend in PCIe SSDs.
09:00 – 10:00
SPO5639 Accelerate Business-critical
Workloads to your Private Cloud
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Manju Ramanathpura,
Hitachi Data Systems
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | room F1
As private cloud deployments quickly become
a way for enterprises to improve flexibility and
efficiency, and virtualization becomes ubiquitous,
organizations must ensure predictable platform
reliability. Companies need to be able to deploy
and consume their business-critical workloads to
a private cloud without spend significant amount
of their time putting together the underlying
infrastructure. Evolving beyond current solutions,
Hitachi Data Systems offers a flexible and robust
platform for quickly capitalizing on cloud benefits
in addition to ensuring the consistency and level
of control required for business-critical workload
environments. With HDS, you can simplify the
management of servers, storage and networking
components, by centralizing and automating
them into business resource pools, to significantly
reduce your time to value and operational costs.
Join us for this technical session, and see how
you can easily view and manage your entire
physical and virtual infrastructure from within
VMware vCenter.
09:00 – 11:00
TEX2198 Cloud Application Platform
Roadmap (TAP only)
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Morgan Goeller, VMware, Inc.;
Killian Murphy, VMware, Inc.;
Hartman Schoebel, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | room F3
This is the Cloud Application Platform Roadmap
session, exclusively for Technology Alliance
Program (TAP) partners.
In this session you can understand future plans
for the Cloud Foundry, learn about the upcoming
features for vFabric, and hear the PM discuss
critical Data Director features. Also, learn the
new approach to deploying application on cloud
infrastructure that allows customers to gain
maximum agility and control – VMware vFabric
Application Director, an application provisioning
solution in the VMware Application Management
Suite, provides unmatched deployment
automation and self-service provisioning.
Get the details at the Roadmap session.
10:30 – 11:30
APP-BCA1516 Virtualizing SQL 2012:
Doing It Right
Technical Level:
Area of Interest: S
Speaker(s): Michael Corey, Ntirety;
Jeff Szastak, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room A2
A SQL Server database is a resource intensive
application, and thus requires attention to its
implementation on a vSphere platform. Attend
this technical session to learn how to properly
virtualize SQL Server on a vSphere platform. We
will discuss how to migrate existing SQL Server
databases onto a vSphere platform, how to
properly determine resource requirements for a
virtualized SQL Server implementation, and how
to manage and monitor those resources.
APP-BCA2053 Virtualizing MS
Exchange 2010 at General Mills -
Architecture Details and
Lessons Learned
Technical Level:
Area of Interest: FS
Speaker(s): Jason Whitelock, General Mills;
Curtis Witt, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room C1
This will be a technical session, in which General
Mills will share their experience in virtualizing
key MS Exchange 2007 server roles, supporting
~30,000 mailboxes for one of the most
recognized brands in the world, beginning in
2009, on vSphere 4.0. Since then, they have
migrated to MS Exchange 2010, and virtualized
all server roles, on vSphere 4.1. General Mills will
discuss the architecture that they ultimately
chose, why they chose it, and how it differs from
vendor recommendations. One such example is
General Mills’ use of shared storage, rather than
direct-attached storage.
APP-CAP1644 The Changing Nature of
Applications and the VMware vFabric
Cloud Application Platform
Technical Level:
Area of Interest: fs
Speaker(s): Al Sargent, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room D2
Most IT executives agree that their application
infrastructure will look very different five years
from now. That difference will be driven by
the changing nature of applications, which are
increasingly Web-oriented, dynamic, dataintensive
and most likely deployed on a virtual
infrastructure. New applications will be sourced
from existing data centers as well as from external
cloud services. Monitoring and metric gathering
will be required to span heterogeneous cloud
environments to provide end-to-end visibility.
And end users will access these applications
from a growing variety of devices.
Weaving an elastic enterprise into a cohesive,
secure, compliant whole in a way that improves
IT agility is the challenge for cloud IT. In this
session you’ll gain insight into how your peers
are meeting these challenges while protecting
investments in legacy applications and
infrastructure.
