THURSDAY
10:30 – 11:30
INF-VSP1423 esxtop for
Advanced Users
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Krishna Raj Raja, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room E1
This is an advanced technical session for ESX/
ESXi administrators who want to understand the
various counters exposed by esxtop. This talk will
cover various troubleshooting scenarios and will
provide insights into the inner workings of the
VMware® ESX® hypervisor.
INF-VSP3046 What’s New with
Cloud Infrastructure Suite: From
Management Application to
Integrated Applications and
Extensible Platform
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Ben Verghese, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room F4
vCenter, the management heart of vSphere, is
primarily a closed application with a large API for
integration. The application ecosystem around
vCenter (from VMware and partners) is fairly
loosely integrated. This situation is starting to
change. Over the next few releases, the collection
of management applications from VMware
will transform into a fully integrated Cloud
Infrastructure Suite.
This talk will address how the suite will unify the
aspects of Install/Uppgrade/Patch, UI, API and
Operational services across the applications. We
will describe the infrastructure building blocks
underpinning the suite, and introduce how
partners in the ecosystem will be able to create
deep integration with these infrastructure blocks
and so with the Cloud Infrastructure Suite.
ITT3239 On-demand IT: Leveraging
Cloud for Efficient Self-Service IT
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Michael Francis, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room G1
Cloud computing holds the promise of dramatic
gains in efficiency through the introduction of
new self-service models of IT that were previously
impossible. But shifting an IT organization to a
self-service model takes more than technology.
Delivering infrastructure on demand without
investing in an organization and management
processes to support it will only unlock a part
of the value of cloud.
This session addresses the complete set of
capabilities required to build, operate, staff and
measure the impact of an on-demand IT model.
Topics covered include recommendations for
establishing and managing a service catalog and
driving efficiency and business agility through a
self-service model based on standard services.
OPS-CIM1718 Continuous
Configuration Management for Cloud,
Virtual and Physical Environments
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Shiv Agarwal, VMware, Inc.;
Peter Bury, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room C3
Wondering how to ensure configuration
consistency in your cloud, virtual and/or physical
environments on a continuous basis to avoid
unexpected outages; come learn how VMware’s
solution can help. VMware’s vCenter Configuration
Manager (VCM) provides configuration and
compliance management for your cloud, virtual
and physical environments. VCM provides deep
configuration visibility and change tracking
against vSphere (ESX, ESXi, and vCenter),
vCloud Director, Windows, Linux, Mac OS X
and UNIX platforms. VMware provides pre-built
configuration policies for many vendor, industry
and regulatory hardening guides (e.g. vSphere
Hardening), best practices (e.g. Microsoft),
benchmarks (e.g. CIS, SCAP) and standards
(e.g. PCI, HIPAA, ISO, Basel). Together this deep
configuration tracking and out of the box content
allows customers to understand what’s changing
in their environment and assess whether these
configurations are compliant with external
guidance or internal policies. Furthermore, VCM
allows users to enforce compliance where noncompliant
configurations will be automatically
remediated. Windows, Linux and UNIX Operating
System patch management is also a key part
of this solution. Finally, Configuration Manager
provides robust reporting and exception handling
to deliver a holistic configuration and compliance
management solution.
PAR2124 Winning Cloud Infrastructure
Deals Against Microsoft
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Chanda Dani, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | room E3
This is a competitive update session for Cloud
Infrastructure products. The session will educate
partners on VMware’s key differentiators
and product strengths in the areas of core
virtualization and private cloud such that VMware
partners can win against Microsoft’s push into
this market. Attendees will learn how VMware’s
Cloud Infrastructure products enable customers
to be more responsive to their business needs
and reduce business risk. The session prepares
the attendees on selling VMware’s advantages,
debunking Microsoft’s claims, and handling
common objections. Attendees will also learn
about the various competitive tools and
resources available to them.
