WEDNESDAY
17:00 – 18:00
SPO5631 Server Guy’s Guide to
Network Fabrics
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Abner Germanow, Juniper Networks
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room c2
This session will review the key networking
challenges faced in highly virtualized
environments and how the various network
fabrics available today solve virtual server
connectivity challenges. Also how by making the
correct fabric choice can increase the agility of IT.
SPO5781 Freeing Devops
in the Enterprise
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Ken Owens, Savvis
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room F1
Enterprises are investigating ways to expand
their on-premise infrastructure and application
development to Cloud Service Providers (CSP)
that can address the enterprise requirements
for capacity on demand, security, performance,
and application platform independence and
performance. Many of today’s solutions have
issues like proprietary application platforms that
require redevelopment time to function offpremise,
inability to move to another provider if
SLAs aren’t met, and long lead times to move or
set up new environments.
This session will define reference architectures
around creating a private PaaS for enterprise
application development within a CSP VCD
deployment that allows enterprise developers
a target PaaS framework to deploy within.
This architecture addresses the ability to provide
visibility of application resource consumption and
application performance while establishing and
adhering to the corporate security framework and
application governance models.
The primary use cases for private PaaS are secure
extension and hybrid broker. Secure extension
consists of extending the internal enterprise
platform to the CSP platform leveraging cloud
foundry inside the enterprise to extend their
usage seamlessly to the CSP for burst. Hybrid
Private PaaS consists of moving development
code to the CSP from another platform outside
the target CSP and enterprise platform.
The presentation will distinguish why vCloud and
Private PaaS is important to Enterprise customers
as it enables them to leverage the industry leading
service providers, software vendors, security
vendors, and advanced VMware technology, to
build internal clouds and seamlessly deploy flex
capacity off premise, to the cloud, as needed.
TEX3049 PCI Compliance Architecture
in a Private Cloud
Technical Level:
Speaker(s): Allen Shortnacy, VMware, Inc.
HALL 8, LOWER LEVEL | Room F3
The journey to the cloud enables organizations
to realize the benefits of virtualization and
address compliance requirements in a more
secure and efficient manner. One very compelling
argument for organizations migrating missioncritical
applications to VMware vSphere® and
ultimately to a private cloud based on VMware®
is the ability to address compliance concerns
more efficiently and effectively. Using best
practices, an organization’s compliance policy is
a combination of corporate governance, industry
and governmental regulations and mandated
standards (SOX, PCI, HIPAA/HITEC, and so on).
A successful compliance strategy is an outcome
enabled by operationalizing compliance policy via
the automation of technical and manual control
processes. The ideal compliance posture is to
have a closed loop process that unifies business
and IT policies by mapping them to common
enabling controls and operating those controls in
a manner that enables quicker visibility and action
to mitigate deficiencies. By building a businesscentered
view of IT risk, this process can translate
technical issues into risks relevant to business
processes. This session will discuss the PCI
compliance reference architecture for a private
cloud, the role of partners in the architecture and
how a VMware plus partners solution enables
customers to host PCI-compliant applications
in a private cloud environment.
