The new <strong>Cummins</strong> College of Engineering for Women campus in Nagpur.<br />
The Pune campus, which opened in 1991, has<br />
more than 400 students. In addition to offering undergraduate<br />
courses in Mechanical Engineering, which<br />
started in 2007, the college’s curriculum includes<br />
courses in Electronics and Tele<strong>com</strong>munications,<br />
Computer Engineering, Instrumentation and Control,<br />
and Information Technology. Last year, <strong>Cummins</strong><br />
wel<strong>com</strong>ed 35 interns from the college.<br />
The Nagpur campus accepted 240 students<br />
initially, 60 in each of the four degree programs<br />
it offers—Information Technology, Mechanical<br />
Engineering, Computer Engineering & Electronics<br />
and Tele<strong>com</strong>munications.<br />
College officials hope to expand in the <strong>com</strong>ing years.<br />
For example, the current hostel connected to the<br />
college is home to about 180 women. There are plans<br />
to increase that to 700 over the next three years.<br />
More than 4,000 women have attended the <strong>Cummins</strong> College of Engineering for Women. Women from disadvantaged sections<br />
of Indian society are given preference for enrollment.
