certificate programs <strong>of</strong>fered by Continuing<br />

As the educational bridge between the<br />

<strong>University</strong> and the community, Continuing<br />

Studies at <strong>Western</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers courses and<br />

programs in pr<strong>of</strong>essional and personal<br />

development, post-degree diploma and<br />

certificate programs, and summer French<br />

Immersion courses in Quebec.<br />

Post-Degree Diploma Programs are<br />

typically one full year in length and<br />

link career-specific skills with the more<br />

theoretical knowledge obtained in<br />

undergraduate studies. Courses are taught<br />

by pr<strong>of</strong>essionals in the field, and hands-on<br />

work placements in most <strong>of</strong> our programs<br />

add valuable experience to your degree.<br />

Certificate programs are designed for<br />

practitioners with a minimum <strong>of</strong> two years<br />

experience in a related field and are designed<br />

to help practitioners improve their skillset<br />

while attaining a recognized university<br />

credential.<br />

The Teaching Assistant Training Program is a<br />

hands-on, two-and-a-half- day session taught by<br />

current Teaching Assistants (TAs) and designed<br />

for new TAs embarking on their teaching careers.<br />

Learn about fair grading practices, diversity in<br />

the classroom, lecturing, and giving <strong>student</strong>s<br />

feedback on written work.<br />

Choose from concurrent sessions designed<br />

to meet your specific discipline-related teaching<br />

needs such as vocal health for lecturers or using<br />

small group discussion methods in the classroom<br />

for tutorial leaders. Get real-time, hands-on<br />

teaching experience in our unique microteaching<br />

sessions, where you can try out your<br />

teaching skills and techniques with a small group<br />

<strong>of</strong> your peers and receive helpful, constructive<br />

feedback. At the end <strong>of</strong> the session, you’ll receive<br />

a certificate as evidence <strong>of</strong> your commitment to<br />

the development <strong>of</strong> your knowledge and skill as<br />
