There are services on campus for <strong>student</strong>s<br />

struggling with eating problems. Psychological<br />

Services at SDC can provide an assessment<br />

<strong>of</strong> current difficulties. During most <strong>of</strong> the<br />

academic year, an assessment will be <strong>of</strong>fered<br />

to you within one week <strong>of</strong> your contact<br />

with us. If appropriate, we will also <strong>of</strong>fer<br />

you psychotherapy for your eating issues.<br />

The waiting time for therapy varies greatly<br />

depending upon the time <strong>of</strong> year. All <strong>student</strong>s<br />

will also be provided referrals.<br />

A UWO Student Medical Certificate (SMC)<br />

is required when a <strong>student</strong> visits an <strong>of</strong>fcampus<br />

physician and is requesting academic<br />

accommodation.. This documentation<br />

should be obtained at the time <strong>of</strong> the initial<br />

consultation with the physician or walk-in<br />

clinic. An SMC can be downloaded from<br />

the Medical Documentation heading at<br />

<strong>student</strong>services.uwo.ca. Hard copies are available<br />

from <strong>Academic</strong> Counselling in the Faculties.<br />

Students obtaining documentation from<br />

Student Health Services should sign a “release<br />

<strong>of</strong> information.” This form authorizes Student<br />

Health Services to provide information to<br />

the <strong>student</strong>’s home Faculty and are available<br />

from the <strong>student</strong>’s home Faculty <strong>Academic</strong><br />

Counselling service.<br />

A resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong> must have a health<br />

card to show that he or she is entitled to health<br />

care services paid for by OHIP. The Ministry<br />

<strong>of</strong> Health and Long-Term Care pays for a wide<br />

range <strong>of</strong> services. Most <strong>of</strong> your <strong>Ontario</strong> health<br />

benefits are covered across Canada. For more<br />

consulting dietitian, to work with <strong>student</strong>s at<br />

Student Health Services provides oncampus<br />

health care and counselling, to all<br />

registered part-time and full-time <strong>student</strong>s at<br />

<strong>Western</strong> and Affiliated <strong>University</strong> Colleges.<br />

The clinic is a full service medical clinic<br />

that <strong>of</strong>fers birth control information, allergy<br />

injections, immunization, and sexually<br />

transmitted infection testing. In addition,<br />

on-site counselling, massage therapy,<br />

physiotherapy and laboratory services are<br />

available. Our website provides detailed<br />

information about these services, health<br />

related resources, and assessing your health<br />

and wellbeing. Appointments can be made<br />

by contacting SHS either in person or by<br />

The <strong>University</strong> Health Insurance Plan<br />

(UHIP) was created to <strong>of</strong>fer affordable<br />

insurance to pay the cost <strong>of</strong> the hospital and<br />

medical services international <strong>student</strong>s and<br />

their families might need to maintain their<br />

health while at a participating university in<br />

<strong>Ontario</strong>. Signing up for UHIP coverage is<br />

mandatory for all international <strong>student</strong>s and<br />

the fee is included in the year’s tuition. The<br />

plan covers most <strong>of</strong> what OHIP (<strong>Ontario</strong><br />

Health Insurance Plan) covers, as well costs<br />

usually covered by an extended health care<br />

plan.<br />

UHIP card — where do I pick it up?<br />

You will receive an email sent to your<br />

UWO account informing you that your<br />

UHIP card is available to be picked up<br />

in Student Central, Room 1120 <strong>Western</strong><br />

Student Services Building. Any questions<br />

can be emailed to the UHIP Administrator at<br />

hr-communication@uwo.ca.<br />

USC Health Plan<br />

All full-time undergrads are automatically<br />

enrolled in the USC Extended Benefit Health<br />

Plan, and are assessed a fee <strong>of</strong> $96.00 for this<br />

Plan upon Registration. The Plan is effective<br />

from September 1st to August 31st, each<br />

year, and <strong>of</strong>fers benefits specifically designed<br />

for <strong>student</strong> needs.<br />

Students who are covered under an<br />

equivalent extended benefit health care plan<br />

(in addition to your standard provincial<br />

coverage) may choose to “opt-out” <strong>of</strong> the<br />

USC plan.<br />
