Libraries & Computer Labs media on campus Libraries & Computer Access Western Libraries www.lib.uwo.ca Western Libraries features seven locations across campus that provide access to: physical collections, individual and group study space, printing and photocopying facilities, Sun Ray terminals for access to online library resources, and wireless access if you prefer to work on your own laptop. The Western Libraries website (www.lib.uwo.ca) provides an easy way to search and discover Western Libraries’ expansive online collections. In person or online you will also find friendly, helpful staff available who are experienced assisting students with all kinds of information needs. Hours of Operation: Individual Western Libraries locations are posted on the library website Taylor Library (Engineering, Science, Health Sciences and Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry) and Weldon Library (Arts & Humanities, Information and Media Studies and Social Science) are the largest libraries on campus and through the school year are typically open between 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 p.m Monday to Friday, and offer weekend hours (usually between 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.). Through the exam period Taylor and Weldon are open until 2 a.m.. Professional libraries on campus include the C.B. “Bud” Johnston Library (Business), Education Library, John & Dosta Bitove Family Law Library and Music Library. Hours vary for each location but most are open between 9 a.m. – 10 p.m., Monday to Friday and offer some weekend hours. Western Libraries is also home to the Archives and Research Collections Centre. The ARCC provides access to archival and special collections materials on a variety of topics of interest to researchers. General Student Computing Labs These labs are for general University instructional use. When the labs are not reserved for classes, they may be used by any Western student on a drop-in basis. Locations: • HSB13, HSB14 & HSB16 – Health Sciences Building, rooms 13, 14, and 16 • NCB 105 – North Campus Building, room 105 • NSC 110 – Natural Sciences Centre, room 110 • SH 1310 – Somerville House, room 1310 (lower level) • UC2 – University College, room 2 • SSC 1000, 1012 1032 – Social Science Centre WebCT Owl webct.uwo.ca WebCT Owl is an academic website where you can check your grades, see an online copy of your courses syllabus, or lectureslides, and is used by some professors as a tool for distributing course assignments. After logging in with your Western username and password, your home page will display all the courses you are registered for. Western Wireless Access to Western Wireless is only available to students, faculty, staff and visitors of the University who have a valid WEI — Western Electronic Identity. Members of the University Community with long term or temporary physical disabilities may apply for access to all areas designated with the recognized international symbol. Disabled permit parkers are also granted access to all metered areas on campus. Graduate Student Parking Permit If you are a student registered in a Graduate program (MA, PhD or other authorized Graduate degree) and wish to park your vehicle on campus, you will need to purchase a permit and display it in your window. Graduate Students at Western are eligible to obtain a parking permit for the Perimeter (grey) lots. All permits are issued for a period of (up to twelve) months (September 1 to 31 August) and are issued on a Non-Reserved basis — meaning spaces are available on a first come first served basis. Parking at Affiliated University Colleges Brescia brescia.uwo.ca Annual Permit: $350.00 Daily Permit: $5.00 Weekly Permit: $20.00 Replacement Annual Permit (lost or stolen): $30.00 Huron Parking at Huron requires a parking permit. Permits are available on request upon filling the required paperwork available at www. huronuc.ca/pdf/ParkingApp.pdf. As parking will also be offered to the Western staff and students starting August 16, it is important for students to get their pass early. Parking passes are to be picked up in person in the Mail Room (basement level, south end, by Maintenance/ Housekeeping) starting August 9th, 2010. Undergraduate Parking Lots • Althouse • Medway • Huron Flats • Springett West Gate Although green coded lots are all about the same distance from the campus core, some are perceived to be “closer” and will fill more quickly, according to predictable cycles: Medway fills to capacity by about 10:30am. Usage drops off quickly at 2:00pm. Huron Flats and Althouse lots do not fill to capacity. If you arrive on campus before 8:30, typically you may still get a space at Medway. If you arrive mid-morning or later, go directly to Huron Flats or Althouse. Please do not sit and wait longer than a few minutes for a space to open up. There is adequate space elsewhere, and it is much better use of your valuable time to go directly there. If you have questions or need directions to available lots, ask at the Welcome Centre. During the summer months (May-August), undergraduate (green) permit holders have access to all green zone lots as well as the following grey zone lots; South Valley, Springett, Elborn and Visual Arts. How do I Reserve an Undergraduate Parking Permit for the Academic Year? Internet The most convenient way to obtain your parking permit is to use our internet form: www.uwo.ca/parking/application_prereq. html. Follow the instructions on the application. This section is secured and therefore payment is required in order to guarantee your permit. In Person The parking office will gladly process your application in person. We are located in Room 4150, Support Services Building. Be prepared for long line-ups during Orientation Week. Please Note: Permits requested during the spring/summer months for the academic year (1 September - 30 August) will be processed during the summer and will be available for you to pickup in Room 4150, Support Services Building after July 15. Parking space at the University is limited. All arrangements are made on a first-come, firstserved basis and we regret that not all requests can always be accommodated. Undergraduate Student Parking Permit Visit www.uwo.ca/parking for more details. Visitor Parking Options Public parking is available at easily accessible points around campus. Visitors and invited guests should be directed to one of our available visitor facilities, visitor attended lots, meters, or pay and display metered areas. The University is a large, active and complex place. Parking location, availability and function may be obtained at the Information Centers located at the Richmond and Western Road entrances to campus. Information kiosks are attended by student staff (Monday to Friday, 8am - 4pm) who are equipped with campus maps and are happy to assist visitors to reach their destinations. All parking on campus is restricted to lots/spaces that have been marked and/or signed for such purpose. The University campus is private property and parking is prohibited in any location where not specifically authorized. There is a charge to park in all of these lots, unless otherwise indicated: Alumni Hall/Thompson Arena — Attended Lot • Located in the central campus core Weldon Lot — Attended Lot • Located in the central campus core Kent Drive — Attended Lot • Located in the central campus core Althouse Lot (north entrance) —- Automated Entry • Located on the southern perimeter of campus.
