<strong>NAAC</strong> Re-accreditation <strong>Supplementary</strong> <strong>Report</strong><br />

7.2 Inclusive practices<br />

7.2.1 What practices have been taken up by the <strong>in</strong>stitution to provide access to students<br />

from the follow<strong>in</strong>g sections of the society:<br />

a) Socially-backward<br />

b) Economically-weaker and<br />

c) Differently-abled<br />

Ans:- Even though the University is exempted from the reservation policies, SC/ST<br />

and physically handicapped students are given a relaxation of 5% for UG and<br />

PG courses, Economically weaker sections are provided scholarships and fee<br />

concession from the University to cope up with their f<strong>in</strong>ancial problems. This<br />

section of the society is given special assistance. A large number of socially<br />

backward students who happen to be also economically week are identified<br />

by the members of Yeshu Darbar Trust and other members from the SHIATS<br />

family and they are encouraged to jo<strong>in</strong> the University for higher studies with<br />

attached f<strong>in</strong>ancial aid. The greatest apostle <strong>in</strong> this area is our own Vice<br />

Chancellor who relentlessly supports the cause of the socially backward and<br />

economically weaker section of the society, relentlessly.<br />

7.2.2 What efforts have been made by the <strong>in</strong>stitution to recruit staff from the<br />

disadvantaged communities? Specify?<br />

a) teach<strong>in</strong>g<br />

b) non-teach<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Ans:- Personal efforts are made to encourage such persons to apply.<br />

7.2.3 What special efforts are made to achieve gender balance amongst students and<br />

staff?<br />

Ans:- Sudha Lal Women’s College and Hel<strong>in</strong>a School of Home Science are runn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

courses specially for girl students, thus promot<strong>in</strong>g the gender balance <strong>in</strong> the<br />

University. It is gratify<strong>in</strong>g to note that women are encouraged to take<br />

admission, as well as for employment.<br />

7.2.4 Has the <strong>in</strong>stitution done a gender audit and/or any gender-related sensitiz<strong>in</strong>g<br />

courses for the staff/ students? Give details.<br />

Ans:- Yes. At present the University has 5478 male and 2728 female students. It is<br />

true that the percentage of female students is 50% of males which is low. But<br />

this has been achieved through persistent efforts. This figure is better relative<br />

to Northern India situation. Efforts are made to encourage more girls to jo<strong>in</strong>.<br />
