celebrates the 4th <strong>of</strong> July with fireworks and the 5-day Fireman’s<br />
Labor Day celebration features tractor pulls, demolition derby, food,<br />
exibits, fun and a huge parade. Purchase fresh produce and Amish<br />
baked goods at the Farmers Market on summer Saturday mornings.<br />

from B&Bs to cabins and camping. Just east on Hwy. 33 is Wildcat<br />

Chaseburg is a charming town located southwest <strong>of</strong> Coon Valley<br />
on Highway 162. It features a downtown with restored log cabins and<br />
a converted stone schoolhouse to interest history and architecture<br />
buffs. Several restaurants make it a good place to stop for a meal.<br />
The town hosts SnoTrail Days, and is the home <strong>of</strong> the Heartland<br />

Villages <strong>of</strong> the Great River Road<br />
The Mississippi River borders the western edge <strong>of</strong> Vernon County.<br />
<strong>Wisconsin</strong> Highway 35 – the Great River Road – passes through the<br />
unique river towns <strong>of</strong> Desoto, Victory, Genoa and Stoddard. Majestic<br />
bluffs, scores <strong>of</strong> bald eagles, and flocks <strong>of</strong> migrating ducks are an<br />
outdoor lover’s delight. Three miles north <strong>of</strong> Desoto you will find<br />
Blackhawk Park on County Rd BI. Don’t miss the US Fish and Wildlife<br />
Service National Fish Hatchery south <strong>of</strong> Genoa. A scheduled tour is<br />
available - call 608-689-2605. Visit Lock and<br />
Dam #8 at Genoa and you might see a barge<br />
lock through. Great fishing, water sports, and<br />
famous catfish dinners are all part <strong>of</strong> river<br />
life. One mile north <strong>of</strong> Genoa is Old Settlers<br />
Overlook with a magnificent view <strong>of</strong> 3 states.<br />
