NMTA Conclave Set<br />

For October 26-27<br />

ALBUQUERQUE — The 30th annual<br />

New Mexico Theatre Ass'n convention will<br />

be held in Albuquerque Tuesday and<br />

Wednesday, October 26-27. it has been announced<br />

here.<br />

This year's sessions will be at the Albuquerque<br />

Inn. a major move from the Hilton<br />

Inn where the get-together has been held<br />

for the past couple of years, according to<br />

convention co-chairmen Loren Eigenberg<br />

and Lou Avolio.<br />

Eigenberg. the current NMTA president,<br />

is from Raton and operates the Hubbard &<br />

Murphy circuit of seven houses in that area.<br />

Avolio. a member of the board of directors,<br />

is Commonwealth Theatres' Albuquerque<br />

city manager.<br />

Avolio said the board met recently to<br />

plan the 1976 convention and noted that<br />

preparations currently are under way to line<br />

up top speakers and other convention details.<br />

The annual Showman's Golf Tournament<br />

is expected to be a traditional highlight<br />

of the statewide gathering.<br />

To Halt X-Film Showings<br />

SALT LAKE CITY—Randy Miller.<br />

operator of two theatres here, told citizens'<br />

groups here July 13 that he will stop showing<br />

X-rated films.<br />

Miller, owner of the Capri. 368 S. State,<br />

and the Cinema, 47 W. 3rd South, said he<br />

"supports the group's goal to eliminate X-<br />

rated, hardcore material."<br />

Admission to the theatres will continue<br />

to be restricted, and signs reading "adult<br />

entertainment" will be replaced by signs<br />

saying "entertainment daily—double feature."<br />

Dennis Allen, founder of the crusade<br />

against adult films, announced his group<br />

will continue to picket other theatres here<br />

which show X-rated films. "Once we close<br />

down those theatres, we'll go after the R-<br />

rated (restricted) movies," he added.<br />

Allen took partial credit for the shuttering<br />

of the Palace, one of the group's targets,<br />

and said picketing has proven successful.<br />

"In view of the agreement with the owner<br />

and operator of the Capri and Cinema<br />

theatres, we shall discontinue demonstrating<br />

our objections to the material they show<br />

so long as it is not subject to prosecution."<br />

AIP Acquires Worldwide<br />

Rights to 'Squirm' Film<br />

BEVERLY HILLS — American International<br />

Pictures has acquired global rights<br />

to "Squirm," the Don Cardino-Patricia<br />

Pearcy-R. A. Dow starrer, which was released<br />

nationally July 14.<br />

Filmed on location in Port Wentworth.<br />

Ga., Edgar Lansbury and Joseph Beruh<br />

were the executive producers of "Squirm."<br />

'Murder by Death' Hits<br />

Macho 500 in Denver<br />

DENVER— "Murder by Death" bullcled<br />

to the lead this week with an impressive<br />

500 for its sixth mark at the Colorado 4.<br />

"Tunnelvision" had Filmrow buzzing as it<br />

opened with a zany 400 at the Cooper<br />

Cameo. Chalking up 310 for its fifth frame.<br />

"The Omen" landed third place while on<br />

the Aladdin screen. Colorado 4 reported a<br />

lusty 300 average for "The Tenant."<br />
