NMTA Conclave Set
For October 26-27
ALBUQUERQUE — The 30th annual
New Mexico Theatre Ass'n convention will
be held in Albuquerque Tuesday and
Wednesday, October 26-27. it has been announced
here.
This year's sessions will be at the Albuquerque
Inn. a major move from the Hilton
Inn where the get-together has been held
for the past couple of years, according to
convention co-chairmen Loren Eigenberg
and Lou Avolio.
Eigenberg. the current NMTA president,
is from Raton and operates the Hubbard &
Murphy circuit of seven houses in that area.
Avolio. a member of the board of directors,
is Commonwealth Theatres' Albuquerque
city manager.
Avolio said the board met recently to
plan the 1976 convention and noted that
preparations currently are under way to line
up top speakers and other convention details.
The annual Showman's Golf Tournament
is expected to be a traditional highlight
of the statewide gathering.

To Halt X-Film Showings
SALT LAKE CITY—Randy Miller.
operator of two theatres here, told citizens'
groups here July 13 that he will stop showing
X-rated films.
Miller, owner of the Capri. 368 S. State,
and the Cinema, 47 W. 3rd South, said he
"supports the group's goal to eliminate X-
rated, hardcore material."
Admission to the theatres will continue
to be restricted, and signs reading "adult
entertainment" will be replaced by signs
saying "entertainment daily—double feature."
Dennis Allen, founder of the crusade
against adult films, announced his group
will continue to picket other theatres here
which show X-rated films. "Once we close
down those theatres, we'll go after the R-
rated (restricted) movies," he added.
Allen took partial credit for the shuttering
of the Palace, one of the group's targets,
and said picketing has proven successful.
"In view of the agreement with the owner
and operator of the Capri and Cinema
theatres, we shall discontinue demonstrating
our objections to the material they show
so long as it is not subject to prosecution."
he said.
AIP Acquires Worldwide
Rights to 'Squirm' Film
BEVERLY HILLS — American International
Pictures has acquired global rights
to "Squirm," the Don Cardino-Patricia
Pearcy-R. A. Dow starrer, which was released
nationally July 14.
Filmed on location in Port Wentworth.
Ga., Edgar Lansbury and Joseph Beruh
were the executive producers of "Squirm."
'Murder by Death' Hits
Macho 500 in Denver
DENVER— "Murder by Death" bullcled
to the lead this week with an impressive
500 for its sixth mark at the Colorado 4.
"Tunnelvision" had Filmrow buzzing as it
opened with a zany 400 at the Cooper
Cameo. Chalking up 310 for its fifth frame.
"The Omen" landed third place while on
the Aladdin screen. Colorado 4 reported a
lusty 300 average for "The Tenant."
