J^aurice Braha opened the Plaza Theatre
on East Houston Street, San Antonio.
July 19. The theatre has a seating capacity
of 900.
Jimmy Duncan will open the Cinema I
and 11 Theatres in New Braunfels, Tex.,
Friday (6). Each theatre will have 350 seats
and is located in the Walnut Square Shopping
Center. Film rental and boxoffice reports
will be handled from Duncan's office
in Marshall, P.O. Box 1866.
Film buffs can "book" their favorite features
in a new "oldies but goodies" festival
set to open at the Highland Park Village
Theatre. Manager David Susky describes
the series as "a new approach to the repertory
cinema concept that's popular in New
York and San Francisco." The festival
opened Friday, July 23, with an original
uncut print of Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho."
"We're inviting patrons to write us with
their suggestions for the series," Susky added,
"then we'll tabulate the response and
schedule the
pictures accordingly." A different
film will be shown on Friday of each
week at midnight. Pictures set to follow
"Psycho" include the Oscar-nominated documentary
"Marjoe," Vittorio De Sica's "The
Garden of the Finzi-Continis." Stanley Donen's
comedy "Bedazzled," the popular classic
romance "Elvira Madigan" and "Joanna,"
which features Donald Sutherland's
first major screen appearance.
Ted Conley, president of Theatre Service,
Inc., Fort Worth, has given notification of
closing of the Pioneer 4 Cinemas in
Arlington.

Joe Josepii, a national theatre broker, sold
the Coronet to Movies, Inc., out of Albuquerque,
with ownership as follows: president,
Bert Mazari; vice-president, Paul
Richardson, and Leonard Levy, attorney
and partner. The theatre, we are told, will
no longer be a porno house but a familytype
operation.
Bennie Lyneli of Grimes Film Booking
is quite pleased with the successful run of
"The Story of Joanna" which will go into
its sixth week at the Josephine Theatre,
San Antonio and Fine Arts, Dallas.
Maud and Eric deNeve of Eric Distributing
Co. had as their house guests the week
of July 25-31 Maud's sister and brotherin-law,
Amie and Piet vanOostveen of Holland
This was their first visit of any duration
since 1948. They had a few minutes to
s.i\ "hello" a couple of years ago, as the
dcNeve's arrived in Holland just as the van-
Oostveens were leaving Holland on an assignment.
We know they enjoyed reminiscing
in the comforts of air-conditioning. Maud
had warned them Texas was hot this time
of the year, but they didn't expect it to
bother them and hopefully it
didn't.
Dallas Adult House Files
Police Harassment Suit
DALLAS—An adult movie theatre and
an adult book store asked in a federal suit
filed this week that Dallas police be stopped
from further seizures of films, arrests or requesting
of identifications of customers at
the establishments.
The suit was filed by Continental Theatre,
the Dallas Literary Shop and several individuals
before U.S. Dist. Judge Robert Porter.
Continental asked Dallas police be enjoined
from seizing more copies of the
film
"Inside Marilyn Chambers," which the suit
alleges the police have taken in two separate
raids since May 22. The suit alleges the
multiple seizures are designed to "harass
and threaten" the theatre.

"Pd Roupe, Woodstock Drive-In. Edmond,
was in town to consult with his booker,
Jim O'Donnell, TBS, and visit UA's exchange.
We just learned that Dan Spencer, fatherin
law of Don Gilbert, Mission Twin and
El Rancho Drive-In, Dalhart, died last
month. Our sincere condolences to daughter
Lin, and remaining survivors.
In tlie city on film businses were: Max
Hamm, Hankins and Mt. Scott drive-ins,
Lawton, and Norman Terry, with son Mark,
Rook Theatre and Watonga Drive-In, Watonga.
Funeral services were held here recently
for Robert H. Pfotenhauer of Las 'Vegas,
Nev. He was a former member here of the
Variety Club, and worked at National Theatre
Supply.
