The City owns and manages cultural facilities, hosts a wide variety of volunteer opportunities and
provides a variety of programs and services to our residents and the cultural sector. This section
provides residents with insight into the services offered by the City, as well as information on
some of the many community offerings from St. Catharines’ cultural community.
Exhibits and Outdoor Art
Jeux D’eau / Games of Water
Unveiled during the opening of the new St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics
Centre in July, Jeux D’eau / Games of Water by artist Naoko Matsubara
is the first work of Public Art commissioned by the City of
St. Catharines. The artwork aims to convey a vigour that celebrates
the enthusiasm of swimmers in the adjacent pool. For more

St. Catharines City Hall Sculpture Program
In September a new temporary art installation will be revealed on
the James Street lawn of City Hall. The new work of art replaces Rod
Dowling’s Circle of Friends which has been on display since 2007.
It will be on loan to the City of St. Catharines for a minimum of two

City Hall Exhibits
Each year the City features three distinct art or photo exhibits on the
2nd floor of City Hall. For more information on past, present and future

Civic Art: Discovering the City of St. Catharines’ Art Collection
August 27 to November 16, 2012
The City owns approximately 500 works of art and cultural property
that are the direct responsibility of the City’s Cultural Services office
in the Recreation and Community Services Department. This includes
fine art, photos, outdoor art and war memorials, significant plaques
and the historic Charles I.D. Looff/Marcus Illions carved wooden
animals at the Lakeside Park Carousel.
City of St. Catharines Annual Juried Show
The Call to Artists for the ninth annual juried show will be released
by the Public Art Advisory Committee and the City of St. Catharines
in late September. For full submission details please contact

Civic Art Collection
The City owns and maintains a collection of indoor and outdoor
cultural property that includes works of art, plaques, public
monuments and the carved animals and artifacts of the Lakeside Park
Carousel. Visit City Hall and other City buildings, parks & properties to
explore the collection.

A new website is set to be launched later this fall that will give
residents THE most comprehensive website of arts, festivals, museums
and more. cNaigara.ca – Set to launch October 5th!
All New St. Catharines Arts Awards in 2013!
After a year long hiatus the St. Catharines Arts Awards are back! The
revamped Awards Ceremony will recognize and celebrate excellence in
all areas of artistic creation. The awards presentation will take place in
the Spring of 2013.
Nomination Deadline: April 15th, 2013. For more information on the
