The <strong>City</strong> owns and manages cultural facilities, hosts a wide variety <strong>of</strong> volunteer opportunities and<br />
provides a variety <strong>of</strong> programs and services to our residents and the cultural sector. This section<br />
provides residents with insight into the services <strong>of</strong>fered by the <strong>City</strong>, as well as information on<br />
some <strong>of</strong> the many community <strong>of</strong>ferings from <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Catharines</strong>’ cultural community.<br />
Exhibits and Outdoor Art<br />
Jeux D’eau / Games <strong>of</strong> Water<br />
Unveiled during the opening <strong>of</strong> the new <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Catharines</strong> Kiwanis Aquatics<br />
Centre in July, Jeux D’eau / Games <strong>of</strong> Water by artist Naoko Matsubara<br />
is the first work <strong>of</strong> Public Art commissioned by the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Catharines</strong>. The artwork aims to convey a vigour that celebrates<br />
the enthusiasm <strong>of</strong> swimmers in the adjacent pool. For more<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Catharines</strong> <strong>City</strong> Hall Sculpture Program<br />
In September a new temporary art installation will be revealed on<br />
the James <strong>St</strong>reet lawn <strong>of</strong> <strong>City</strong> Hall. The new work <strong>of</strong> art replaces Rod<br />
Dowling’s Circle <strong>of</strong> Friends which has been on display since 2007.<br />
It will be on loan to the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Catharines</strong> for a minimum <strong>of</strong> two<br />

<strong>City</strong> Hall Exhibits<br />
Each year the <strong>City</strong> features three distinct art or photo exhibits on the<br />
2nd floor <strong>of</strong> <strong>City</strong> Hall. For more information on past, present and future<br />

Civic Art: Discovering the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Catharines</strong>’ Art Collection<br />
August 27 to November 16, <strong>2012</strong><br />
The <strong>City</strong> owns approximately 500 works <strong>of</strong> art and cultural property<br />
that are the direct responsibility <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong>’s Cultural Services <strong>of</strong>fice<br />
in the Recreation and Community Services Department. This includes<br />
fine art, photos, outdoor art and war memorials, significant plaques<br />
and the historic Charles I.D. Lo<strong>of</strong>f/Marcus Illions carved wooden<br />
animals at the Lakeside Park Carousel.<br />
<strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Catharines</strong> Annual Juried Show<br />
The Call to Artists for the ninth annual juried show will be released<br />
by the Public Art Advisory Committee and the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Catharines</strong><br />

Civic Art Collection<br />
The <strong>City</strong> owns and maintains a collection <strong>of</strong> indoor and outdoor<br />
cultural property that includes works <strong>of</strong> art, plaques, public<br />
monuments and the carved animals and artifacts <strong>of</strong> the Lakeside Park<br />
Carousel. Visit <strong>City</strong> Hall and other <strong>City</strong> buildings, parks & properties to<br />
explore the collection.<br />

After a year long hiatus the <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Catharines</strong> Arts Awards are back! The<br />
revamped Awards Ceremony will recognize and celebrate excellence in<br />
all areas <strong>of</strong> artistic creation. The awards presentation will take place in<br />
the Spring <strong>of</strong> <strong>2013</strong>.<br />
