A fresh look at promot<strong>in</strong>g Staten Island from borough market<strong>in</strong>g<br />

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- With visions of a high-rise hotel <strong>in</strong> St. George and an amusement complex <strong>in</strong> South<br />
Beach, students <strong>in</strong> Prof. Rosane Gertner's senior market<strong>in</strong>g class at <strong>the</strong> College of Staten Island presented to<br />
a panel of SINY members <strong>the</strong>ir ideas for a more positive, marketable borough.<br />
The meet<strong>in</strong>g of students, faculty and SINY's board of directors was <strong>the</strong> bra<strong>in</strong>child of attorney Lisa Bova-<br />
Hiatt, who pitched <strong>the</strong> idea to <strong>CSI</strong> President Tomas Morales. Both are part of SINY, a non-profit organization<br />
that seeks to promote <strong>the</strong> Island's cultural <strong>in</strong>stitutions and attractions.<br />

"This is <strong>the</strong> first time that we have worked extensively with college students," said Ms. Bova-Hiatt, a Dongan<br />
Hills resident. "<strong>CSI</strong> is filled with bright and energetic students, and <strong>the</strong>y are really an untapped resource."<br />
After hear<strong>in</strong>g from SINY members early <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> semester, members of Ms. Gertner's class broke <strong>in</strong>to six<br />
groups, and each was asked to develop a plan to market Staten Island, with no limits on budget or<br />
