syzyfowa praca.
PA: Co dzieje się, gdy śnieg przestaje padać
WC: Brak opadów nie oznacza bezczynności z naszej strony. Zawsze
wtedy rozpoczynamy pracę, którą żartobliwie nazywamy
„Akcją usuwania skutków zimy”. Wtedy to usuwamy usterki
w sprzęcie lotniskowym, odsłaniamy kanalizację odwadniającą,
uzupełniamy oznakowanie pionowe, itp.
PA: Ilu pracowników bierze udział wakcji zima
WC: Regulaminowo „Akcję zima” rozpoczynamy na naszym lotnisku
1 października, a kończymy pod koniec marca. Na ten
okres Dział Eksploatacji łączy się z Działem Transportu i Obsługi
we work 24 hours a day and the runway is constantly being
cleaned by 7 sets of snowplows and de-icing machines.
PA: What are the major difficulties you face
WC: When there are huge snowfalls we have to concentrate all
our efforts and resources to make sure planes can land safely.
The worst thing is that as soon as we clear one part of the runway,
in a few minutes it’s snowed under again. It’s almost an exercise
in futility!
PA: What happens when it stops snowing
WC: It definitely doesn’t mean we have nothing to do! We jokingly
call this the ‘effects of winter removal campaign’. That’s
when we service the airport equipment, uncover the ditches,
service signage etc.
PA: How many people take part in the airport’s ‘winter campaign’
WC: In accordance with regulations we begin our ‘winter campaign’
on the 1st of October and finish towards the end of
ludzie MPL Katowice
the people of Katowice International Airport
e boimy!
We’re not afraid of winter!
Maszyn. Zmieniamy też system pracy z 8-godzinnego na zrównoważony.
Oczywiście, jeśli warunki są niekorzystne, poza okresem
regulaminowej „Akcji Zima” działamy tak, jakby akcja nadal
trwała.
PA: Jaka była najgorsza zima w historii
WC: Najgorsza zima, jaką pamiętam, to ta w 2002 roku.
do lotniska. Pamiętam, że wielu pracowników docierało
do pracy na piechotę. Pracowali bez przerwy, bez chwili wytchnienia.
WC: Przy intensywnym opadzie śniegu dochodziło do sytuacji,
i ciężkiej pracy wszystkich pracowników, zarówno
March. For the ‘Winter season’ Maintenance Services joins with
the Department of Transport and Machine Maintenance. We also
change our shifts from 8-hour rotational shifts to balanced shifts.
Naturally, if the weather conditions demand it, our ‘winter campaign’
continues well into April – for as long as it’s necessary.
PA: Which winter will you remember as being the worst to date
WC: The worst winter in my mind was that of 2002. From January
2nd for over a week it snowed intensively and the temperature
was extremely low. We were not only trying to ensure the
safest possible take-offs and landings, but we were also helping
roadcrews clear the access roads to the airport. Many of our personnel
had to come to work on foot. They worked around the
clock without any breaks. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank
them yet again for their enormous effort and commitment.
PA: Has the airport ever been closed due to inclement weather
conditions
WC: Sometimes, during intensive snow falls there have been times
when planes have had to circle the airport waiting for crews to desnow
the runway, but Katowice Airport has never needed to be
closed due to inclement winter weather. I’d like to stress that the
only reason this has been possible is through the dedicated hard
work of an incredibly committed staff of both Airport Maintenance
Services and Department of Transport and Machine Maintenance.
PA: Has this winter already played havoc with airport services
WC: Up until now, there have only been a few snowy days. So far,
Mother Nature is being kind to us - and let’s hope it stays that
way till the end of winter!
