Life expectancy can also be used as a measure <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> health inequalities. The measure used<br />

here is the Slope Index <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Inequality for life expectancy, which measures the gap in life<br />

expectancy between the best <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>f and worst <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>f deprivati<strong>on</strong> deciles. Between 2001-2005 and<br />

2006-2010 in <str<strong>on</strong>g>Stoke</str<strong>on</strong>g>-<strong>on</strong>-<strong>Trent</strong>, the gap in life expectancy between males living in the most<br />

affluent and most deprived areas fell from 9.9 years to 8.2 years. For females, the gap<br />

remained around 4.7 years (figure 3). During this period, the inequality gap in both male and<br />

female life expectancy increased in England.<br />
