Mortality rate per 100,000 population Circulatory disease Circulatory disease (which includes conditions such as heart disease, stroke, hypertension) is the second biggest killer <strong>of</strong> local people. In 2011, 25.1% <strong>of</strong> all deaths in <strong>Stoke</strong>-on-Trent were from circulatory disease (compared with 32.0% in England). Mortality rates in the city from circulatory disease (among people aged under 75) continue to fall and at a much faster rate compared with England, which means the gap in the rate continues to reduce between <strong>Stoke</strong>-on-Trent and England (figure 6). The current 2008-2010 rate <strong>of</strong> 81.0 (per 100,000 population) is the lowest it has been since 1995-1997. The average mortality rate for the city was 87.7. The three wards with the highest mortality rates were: Meir South, Burslem Central, Hanley Park and Shelton. The hospital admission rate from circulatory disease (2006-2010, under 75) ranged from 440.2 in Hanford and Trentham to 807.2 in Fenton West and Mount Pleasant (map 7). The average admission rate for the city was 629.1. The three wards with the highest admission rates were: Fenton West and Mount Pleasant, Blurton West and Newstead, Etruria and Hanley.
