Join Born Free in the fight to
private journey save some of the planet’s most
& escorted tour endangered animals with a short stay
at the beautiful and secluded Villa
Lobengula at Shamwari Game Reserve. During your stay
you’ll encounter local communities, enjoy a behind the
scenes tour of the Born Free rescue centre and engage in
ecology and biology talks with professionals.

ITINER ARY
TOUR DURATION: 3 NIGHTS
h Shamwari: 3 nights
DAY 1 h From Port Elizabeth
transfer to the Shamwari
Game Reserve’s Villa Lobengula
where you will stay for the next
three nights. Enjoy afternoon tea
followed by an introduction from
your experienced ranger and an
afternoon game drive.
DAY 2 h You will be woken
early to enjoy a morning
game drive or optional bushwalk.
This morning you will visit the local
communities of Paterson and
Alicedale where Born Free is
actively involved in many projects.
Visit the crèche, library and care
centre as well as the vegetable
garden and clinic should it be
requested. You will also get to
witness craft in action, a Shamwari
based initiative to help build local
entrepreneurship and development
to help facilitate sustainable
tourism. Later transfer back to the
villa for pre-dinner drinks before
dinner and an interactive
presentation on the anatomy of the
lion from your ranger.
DAY 3 h After breakfast visit the
Born Free Foundation and meet
some of the people working to
save the big cats of Africa. You’ll
get to know the history, and the
circumstances of the big cats
currently in residence at the
rescue centre and how they were
transported to their new home.
You will also get to go behind
the scenes as well as have the
opportunity to meet the team who
look after the rescued big cats and
a chance to learn more about their
work at the rescue centre.
There will also be the opportunity
to learn about other projects such
as Shamwari’s anti-rhino poaching
initiative. You will transfer back to
the villa for dinner.
DAY 4 h This morning you can
choose to either enjoy a game drive
or nature walk before breakfast.
You will then bid farewell to your
host and transfer to Port Elizabeth
to continue your onward journey.
