YOUR
ITINER ARY
TOUR DURATION: 5 NIGHTS
h Arusha: 1 night
h Ngorongoro: 2 nights
h Serengeti: 2 nights
DAY 1 h On arrival into Kilimanjaro airport, transfer to the
Mountain Village (p82) in Arusha for one night.
DAY 2 h Depart Arusha this morning and travel by road to
Karatu, passing through the Great Rift Valley en route with
a brief stop at the top for views of Lake Manyara National
Park below. On arrival in Karatu, stop at Gibb’s Farm – a
working farm dating back to 1929 situated on the forested
slopes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Enjoy a walk
through the coffee and vegetable farm for an insight into
local cultivation techniques, followed by lunch. In the
afternoon, board your safari vehicle and continue to the
Ngorongoro Crater for two nights at the unique Ngorongoro
Serena Lodge (p83). Perched on the crater rim, the stone
lodge blends into the landscape and has magnificent views
of the volcanic crater below.
DAY 3 h A full day in the Ngorongoro UNESCO World
Heritage Site awaits. After breakfast, descend through the
early morning mist down to the crater floor, 600 metres
below. The world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, the
Ngorongoro Crater has rich diverse landscapes, from
forests, swamps and lakes to open grassland, which play
host to over 25,000 large mammals including the Big Five,
zebra, wildebeest, hyena and herds of elephant. It has one
of the densest predator populations in the whole of Africa.
A picnic lunch is served by a small lake frequented by
hippo, before an afternoon of further game viewing. Return
to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
DAY 4 h Board your safari vehicle after breakfast to journey
to the famous Serengeti National Park, with the
opportunity for wildlife viewing en route. Arrive at the
Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge (p82) in time for lunch.
Located adjacent to the Serengeti’s Western Corridor and
Grumeti River, the lodge is made up of traditional thatched
rondavels and has a refreshing infinity pool with
breathtaking views over the rolling plains. In the afternoon,
explore with further game viewing inside the national park.
Return to the lodge for dinner and a two night stay.
