DAY 1 h On arrival in Nairobi, transfer to the four and a
half star Nairobi Serena Hotel (p48) in a Standard Room
for a day at leisure and overnight.
DAY 2 h Fly by light aircraft to the heart of the Maasai Mara
National Reserve and the Mara Serena Safari Lodge (p49)
for two nights. Set high on a hill with far-reaching views
down to the Mara River, the unique accommodation here
is in the style of traditional Maasai manyattas. Enjoy an
afternoon game drive in the camp’s own four-wheel drive
vehicles and overnight.
DAY 3 h Thrilling morning and afternoon game drives in
this game-rich central Mara location. The Mara is one of
the world’s most popular reserves, best known for its big
cat population and the annual great migration from June
to October, but it is also rich in many other species and an
incredible experience at any time of year.
DAY 4 h Today drive to the Tanzania border, where you meet
your Kuoni-exclusive vehicle to continue the journey to Lake
Victoria and Speke Bay Lodge. Built in the style of a small
village, the lodge has traditional thatched buildings, and
tents and bungalows situated along the lake shore. Enjoy
a late afternoon bird walk and dinner (approx. 110 miles).
DAY 5 h Enjoy a stunning early morning canoe safari on
Lake Victoria – one of Africa’s Great Lakes – before
continuing to Kirawira for lunch. Then experience the
vastness of the Serengeti, with game viewing en route
to Mbuzi Mawe: a delightful Serena tented camp in the
park’s central region, surrounded by striking boulders
and grassland. Spend two nights here (approx. 95 miles).
DAY 6 h Soak up the Serengeti with morning and afternoon
game drives. Designated a national park to preserve
the path of the migration circuit, the Serengeti offers
unforgettable wildlife viewing from a solitary leopard to
vast herds of buffalo.
DAY 7 h This morning take your final Serengeti game drive
en route whilst exiting the park, then stop at the famous
archaeological site of Olduvai Gorge before arriving at the
magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. Stay two nights at the
Ngorongoro Serena Lodge (p83), built into the crater rim
(approx. 130 miles).
