levels second to none.
YOUR
ITINER ARY
TOUR DURATION: 6 NIGHTS
h Nairobi: 1 night
h Lake Naivasha: 2 nights
h Maasai Mara by air: 3 nights
DAY 1 h On arrival in Nairobi, transfer to the Nairobi Serena
Hotel (p48) in a Standard Room for one night.
DAY 2 h Drive north to the four star Loldia House on the
shores of one of Kenya’s most stunning lakes, Lake
Naivasha. This beautiful colonial house has eight rooms and
its style is synonymous with early colonial Kenya. You will
see magnificent views of the dormant volcano Mount
Longonot and you can take the opportunity to relax, bird
watch or enjoy walking. Hippo often graze on the lawn here
at night! (approx. 56 miles).
DAY 3 h Remain at Loldia House or visit Lake Nakuru
National Park. Lake Nakuru is best known for the million
flamingos that line its soda-crusted shoreline in a stunning
vision of pink (seasonal), attracted by the abundance of
algae in the lake. At times, over 400 bird species can be
found – although the number of birds here fluctuates
dependent on the water level. Lake Nakuru National Park
also provides habitat for lion, leopard, buffalo and Rothschild
giraffe, as well as white rhino and the endangered black
rhino. Enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the lake. Return to
Loldia House for the night (approx. 50 miles).
DAY 4 h After a relaxing morning and delicious lunch
overlooking the lake, fly by light aircraft to the Maasai
Mara. (At certain times of year it may not be possible to fly
directly to the Mara. You will return by road to Nairobi and
connect with your flight to the Mara in the afternoon.) The
world famous Maasai Mara offers incredible wildlife
viewing amongst stunning African landscapes of rolling
plains and wide open savannah. It offers fantastic chances
of seeing the Big Five – and even better opportunities for
viewing big cats. Other wildlife to spot includes elephant,
giraffe, zebra, hyena, impala, wildebeest, topi and buffalo.
Enjoy three memorable nights under canvas at the Four
Star Governors’ Camp in a Standard Tent by the Mara River.
The main dining area and bar are also tented – a great spot
for watching elephants, hippos or crocodiles! Governors’
Main Camp also has electric lamps and charge points for
cameras and phones only. You may upgrade to the smaller,
more intimate Little Governors’ (extra cost). Embark on an
afternoon game drive in the Mara escorted by professional
rangers, followed by dinner and overnight.
DAY 5 h Two full days to enjoy the Mara with morning
and afternoon game drives searching out the Marsh Pride
and other well-known big cats in probably the best location
in all of the reserve, where the BBC’s ‘Big Cat Diary’ is filmed.
DAY 7 h Morning game drive before your flight back to
Nairobi, where you are taken to the Nairobi Serena Hotel
for the afternoon (you may wish to prebook a day room
here) before your onward journey.
