Diversity conference We held a national diversity
conference, “Integrating Diversity and Service User
Involvement”, in March 2007, as part of Equality and
Diversity Week 2007. This conference looked at how we
can integrate diversity into the work of the organisation,
rather than treat it as a separate stream. It featured the
views and work of our Young People’s Board and other
service users, as well as a presentation on cultural
competence by Dr Begum Maitra, a consultant child and
adolescent psychiatrist.
Over 97% of the attendees at the 2007 Cafcass diversity
conference thought that the event was good or excellent
and 95% said that the learning objectives of the course
were achieved. Comments included:
“Really well-organised, with excellent
speakers and workshops.”
“The two key speakers were a breath
of fresh air.”
“Dr Begum Maitra’s workshop was
thought provoking.”
“The young people involved were
excellent.”
