Community Information Stanwood-Camano AAUW Offers Scholarships Totaling $6500 Students who have graduated from high school in the Arlington/ Stanwood/Camano Island area, or who currently reside there, will want to know about this important scholarship information. The American Association of University Women (AAUW) has for over 130 years led the way in advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. In support of this mission, the Stanwood-Camano branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) has for many years awarded scholarships to local students. This year, the branch is pleased to announce that they will be awarding two to three scholarships of varying amounts for a total of $6500. The deadline for applications is May 31, 2013. All eligible students are encouraged to apply. Applications may be downloaded from www.s-caf.org or www.aauwsc.org. To request one, please email info@aauwsc.org. Did you know Warm Beach was named “Warm Beach” from the dozens of local freshwater hot springs along the community’s shoreline. Until the 1950s, people would swim out to the pools (they were about 200 yards from shore) and they would float above the springs. On two occassions, people had drowned. Out of concern for the safety of the local residents, the city filled in the springs with cement in 1952. www.TheCrabCracker.com Regional event celebrates Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen’s career Friends of State Senator Mary Margaret Haugen will host a public celebration of her 30-year Washington State Legislature career at Floyd Norgaard Hall, 27108 102nd Ave. NW, in Stanwood Sun., April 14, from 2-5pm. The nonpartisan community event opens with an inspirational program of personal public service stories, followed by a reception & refreshments from 4-5pm. Seating is limited. Hidden locations of prize eggs Each year, the Easter Bunny maps out each of his hidden easter egg hunt locations months before Easter. The Easter bunny accidentedly uploaded his database of maps of hidden easter egg placements across the internet. It was quickly revealed through E. Bunny’s Facebook page for a couple hours before the Easter Bunny realized his error and removed the post. One of the Crab Cracker readers was able to download a pic of the South Camano Grange egg site and sent it to us. It clearly shows the locations that the Easter Bunny plans to hide the prized gold and silver Easter eggs. Take a copy of the Crab Cracker with you to their egg hunt on Saturday to quickly locate the hidden prize eggs. 51
