Fishing Report “Blackmouth fishing the past 2 weeks has still been fairly good; especially considering that the flurry of windstorms we’ve had have frequently kept many anglers off the water. The days the weather has been cooperative, keepers and natives alike have been caught in front of the State Park, as far north as Onamac and down at the Race Track between Camano and Hat islands. Right now the best success has been using bait at the end of a long(3-4ft) leader behind an 11” flasher. Some good and not so good updates for the upcoming season: 1) Beginning April 1, the annual limit of White Sturgeon has been reduced from 5 to just 2! They say its because the Sturgeon are being over harvested yet we recreational anglers account for less than 5% of the Sturgeon deaths annually; 90% of them are killed by the invasive sea lions that sit at the dams on the Columbia where the Sturgeon are easy pickings yet the only solution Fish & Wildlife can come up with is to limit our season again and again because the sea lions are “hands off”. I personally find it very frustrating that facts are being ignored in preference to emotions and we are working so hard to save one species at the expense of other species which actually provide us with food sources(Sturgeon & Salmon being the biggest two), but that’s just my humble opinion. The Crab Cracker is 100% LOCAL (and is printed in Snohomish County) 2) On a brighter note, the State has allocated more days to recreational Shrimpers in the Puget Sound by moving the Commercial Shrimpers up to the San Juans. We should get between 3 and 5 days this year instead of the 1 or 2 that we’ve been getting. Lastly, don’t forget that your 2012 fishing license expires at the end of March so you’ll need to buy a new license before you hit the water in April.
